Sounds like the starter wasnt fully engaging. hence the grinding then the spinning noice would be not making contact witht he flywheel at all. Easy fix new dime a dozen SB chevy starter.

well I guess the only thing to do now is find a 678 block and try to make my vette as correct as I can. Maybe save the 68 010 327 block for another project or sell it to buy the 678 block.
