56.5 would probably be spot on to put it in the center of the adjustment brace.

Another update: Discovered the pivot bolt...

Another update:

Discovered the pivot bolt was too long and rubbing the belt. Fixing that eliminated a lot of the problem.

Still smacks the guard occasionally especially under 600 rpm so still...

Yeah that's the problem, it flops so much it hits that guide and sounds like a bell ringing depending on how I adjust the tension.

I don't mind a little flop, but no matter what I do it flops so...

Well.. turned out my new cycling switch was defective. When I bought the new one I also had to adjust it to actually turn off when the switch was submerged in ice water. What a pain !

Probe the wires on the resistor pack with your multimeter with fan on low/med. Record voltages on which wire. Then, turn fan on high and probe the top...
