Ok, I am a complete newbie on A/C systems. My '84's AC has worked fine till this past weekend. Previous owner had it re-charged in 2002 for like $50 - before the laws changed.

If the throttle plates are those valves in the intake under the injectors, I can tell you they are 100% closed - the injectors just fan the gas onto the top of those valves.

There is no "opening"...
