Re: JE/SRP Pistons - Info needed - can you help? (CFI-EFI)

This just goes from bad to worst! Took the block to a local specialist to have the cylinders honed and the crank ground. A day or so later he calls me back:

"You brought in a 400 block to us"? -...

Re: JE/SRP Pistons - Info needed - can you help? (CFI-EFI)

SloRvette - yep, deffo 3.48" stoke. Timing comment makes sense, as I'd like to actually put some miles on the motor before I hurt her again!

CFI-EFI - pulled the block today and am arranging for a...

Re: JE/SRP Pistons - Info needed - can you help? (steveelsbury)

Danno85 - the rods are 6 inch for sure. Regarding the catalogue, you have made the same mistake I did (just realised) - by looking in the JE Automotive catalogue instead of the SRP one. However, my...

JE/SRP Pistons - Info needed - can you help?

I had an engine built for me last year, and have hurt a piston thru detonation. The engine builder gave me no build sheet. I am in the UK, and the builder is in the states. When I asked him for the...

Re: My compression ratio makes no sense - help (Rynda)

Hi Rynda

Your last post is an excellent example of the conflicting advice this forum can generate. You're the first person to say my cam is probably OK, and I must admit it's backed up by my...

Re: WHERE TO PUT THE MAT SENSOR ??? (RICH86'ZZ4)

Rich - well, that's from the horses mouth! Did you do so? Does it stay in under boost?

Krivera - what emotion does that little purple thingy convey?

Re: My compression ratio makes no sense - help (Rynda)

Hey Rynda,

That's a fantastic tip and very, very obvious in hindsight (20:20, as always!). I'l get a calibrated burette this weekend and check out the capacities.

Well, 8 grand seemed...

Re: My compression ratio makes no sense - help (Bruce)

Yep - feedback on my cam is that the builder threw in a cam he had lying around spare, on the basis that the poor limey would know no better (true). The AFR heads, which were sold to me as *new*...

Re: My compression ratio makes no sense - help (Rynda)

Hi Rynda

There is no sign of the piston having impacted the head - both are flawless. There seems to be no play in the little end bearing either.

The big-end shell damage is classic...

LED tail lights - where to get them?

The question may not be as simple as it sounds, as I am in the UK, and we have to have amber turn signals. Can anyone point me in the direction of a supplier?

TIA

Re: My compression ratio makes no sense - help

Dave and Bruce - The Engine Builder was Randy O'Donohue of O'Donohue Racing. He's the engine builder that Carroll Supercharging use. I told him I wanted something built up on a 400 block, to take a...

Re: Blown 377 - Crankcase pressure and oil problem (GRX)

Hi GRX

Yes, it's a Carroll kit
Yes, the pistons are SRP forged

But I've just finished tearing down the engine, and it is the piston lands on number 2.

I posted some pics under this topic: ...

Re: My compression ratio makes no sense - help (SBNova)

Thanks for that SBNova - That's an explanation that makes sense.

Well, I got that pan off and the pistons out, and the lands on number 2 are badly cracked - so I must have detonated her at some...

Re: WHERE TO PUT THE MAT SENSOR ??? (Fast Glass)

I left my MAT sesnor mounted in my Mini-Ram. The kit had a relocation sensor, but I figured the boost would blow it out of the tubes, as it was just a rubber grommet fixture.

Was I wrong? Will...

Re: My compression ratio makes no sense - help (danno85)

Well, I guessed I was wrong somewhere, as at 14:1 static, adding boost would surely explode the engine.....which it didn't!

Now if only I had a valve spring compressor, I could check the valves in...

Re: Torque Converter Stall Speed???? (65Z01)

Same here - my TC stalls at 2700 and if I load it up by power braking, it simply lights up the tires! This is where driving skill comes in - giving her the max throttle you can without breaking...

My compression ratio makes no sense - help

My engine builder specced the engine for 9.0:1, as I have a blower. (400 block, bore 4.155 stroke 3.48 with AFR 220 heads).

Now I have a blowby problem, so the first thing I did is check the...

Re: Another Satisfied Hurst Shifter Owner! (mackeyred96)

Is there a ratchet-type shifter available for an 85 auto, which does look a total abortion when it's fitted?

85 L98 - Delete Aircon?

Having fitted an aftermarket ECM with no provision for A/C control, I went ahead and removed all the tubing and the condensor. Shed weight and made the engine bay less cluttered (You just don't need...

Re: Anyone replaced the fuel pump in an '85? (jmrl98)

Yep, you can do it ALL thru the filler door - steps are easy:

1. Remove filler door by undoing the screws that hold the baseplate to the body.

2. Ensure fuel rail is not pressurised (ie do it...

Re: Blown 377 - Crankcase pressure and oil problem (ziggy57)

After I identified one bad cylinder, and it became apparent the heads were coming off, it didn't seem worth the effort of chasing round hardware stops for pipes and syringes to make up a leakdown...

Re: Blown 377 - Crankcase pressure and oil problem (Joe90)

Hi Joe

A bore-scope? Don't forget I'm in the UK, where the motor spares shops and garages stock the bare minimum parts and tools! I suppose I could go to the local proctologist and borrow an...

Re: Oil Pressure through a Vortech V1 Blower? (Blown Vette)

Having had a proper look this weekend, I'd agree with your diagnosis, as the inlet tract is covered in oil. I also agree I do need bigger injectors, as I'm running a 92% duty cycle at WOT, but the...
