Trouble with spring loaded cigar lighter door

Hello everyone! I have a 2006 convertible. The small spring loaded door just in front of the gear shift keeps opening. It will stay shut after trying several times, but will just pop back open...

On my '86, I removed the outboard driver's side taillight, then I could get both hands inside to loosen that big nut you're talking about. Good luck!
