steering box adding lube

I know this is normally a no go, but taking out the gearing box on a headered car is a mayor pia.

Is there a possibility of adding lube to the steering box without overfilling it.

To put things in perspective. This is a body off resto. So U-joints were all replaced, it has 2500 km on it right now.

I would be surprised that the U-joints would only do this when backing up.

I cannot comment much on what my vette sees during extended spirited driving, but doesn't seem to increase. However once above 160°F the oil thermostat directs the oil flow fully through the cooler....

You need : at least 14 at idle, with a carb more likely 13-13.5.
Cruise, you can get away with constantly 14.

Accel and WOT is 12.5.

Mine has an oil cooler and the sender in the oil pan which is where you should measure, and it runs around 180-190....
