I've taken mine off from above (painted the cover on top of the radiator) and it's no big deal. Looks like you'd have no hand or tool space working from underneath - you'd be trapped by the confines...

You're right. I'm dyno-ing at 401 so assuming a generous 15% for mechanical losses, I get 460 at the motor - a 24 HP gain.
Which tells me spend your money on headers or a cam.
