I would not recommend reversing those wires without a drawing. You could damage the alternator. My guess...since this is the third alt. is that something in line with one or both of those wires is...

Logic says...check what you just did. If you hear noises from the area of a U-joint you just replaced...I would check those first. Maybe on is mis aligned or something like that.

That was under the hood (where the pic is taken), or under the dash (your reference to the fuse box)? Let me know and I will look at my 77 and see if I can find it. Doesnt look familiar, so Im not...

The rear window on my 77 was tinted when I brought it home. I took it off...because it was not a very good job. But, the defogger still works....at least I think it does. really hasnt been tested...

I just check the CT DMV web site. My 77 is no longer required to go through emmisions. Now I am thinking about when I can afford to remove the Cat and put on side pipes. I LOVE side pipes!......

Sounds like you have the lights/wiper doors connected directly to the engine vacuum, by passing the switches. Have you checked the hose routing? That would be my first step.
