Ive had personal experience with mechanical fuel pumps leaking fuel into the oil pan. Check your carb float bowl for leaks and replace your fuel pump. Be sure to change your oil and filter

Trans is a 3 speed, will shift twice. Try adjusting the cable by holding carb at wot only and then push down on lock. No need to pull cable all the way out.

I does sound like the alternator. I just replaced one on my GFs car even though it checked out OK on our test equipment. It was a heat issue. It would work at times but would act-up when hot....

As a rule ceramic pads will give you 3/4 the life vs semi-metallic. Biggest gain is less dust and less squeak.
