Some good news - I got away with it.
Car's back on the road and running just fine - phew !!

I'll do the cam change at some point with a tune. Just very glad no damage was caused

I won't be installing the cam (yet) Replacing the springs first and then will find a tuner in the US to get a tune for it.

Having reset all the codes and making sure the battery was fully charged, the car has been OK since. I do have an issue with the running lights. There's a short somewhere...

Battery is good - 12.8V
I've 2 garages - unfortunately the vette won't fit in either (UK small cars !) so it stays on the driveway - hence no trickle charger but...

Thanks for the pointer - both batteries are charged to 13v - so should be fine. But who knows at this point.

I think there's a power drain somewhere as well as I've had 2 batteries go flat in...
