The mats are bright red... i'll snap a pic of them tomorrow. If I'm not mistaken I thought there was a change in mats between 93 and 94-96. It's been a while though and I could be wrong.

If you disconnect the battery for 15 seconds or so, it will reset the codes, but it's going to come back on. They sell code readers at autoparts stores that let you read the codes and clear them.

Very common with a Hot Cam equipped OBD-II car. Raising the idle will help, but typically won't completely cure it. Disabling it or reducing the range where it can read is the best thing...

Dex-cool will only thicken up if you don't keep the coolant level full. I drained the Dex-cool in my 95 with 60K on it and it came out looking new. When I did the cam in my 96, Dex-cool went back in.

I lost nothing down low with the hot cam in my otherwise stock LT4... drivability is fine after tuning. I do have a slight surge at the 1500-1800 rpm range, but it doesn't bother me much at all.
