Do you have the part? If not, order it. It's a 10 minute install if you do it yourself, and that includes jacking up the car and taking it off the jacks when you're done. You didn't say what model...

I had the same thing happen to my truck, which doesn't get the luxury of parking in the garage (Corvette Parking Only! :D ). I got the worst of it off with claybar, then went back and used bug/tar...

Remember, there is no actual oil "pressure" where the filter is, just has to be tight enough to not leak or vibrate off. Spin it until it's tight, then a 3/4 turn more for insurance is good enough.
