As mentioned, it's a tilt switch in the housing. In mine, the pin on the harness rusted out. So now I have to get in there and repair the plug. It's a stupid little thing, but it bugs the crap...

Mine did that too. Sits in a garage, no chemical spill. I refuse to pay OEM prices for replacements given the poor quality of the original. $25 on Amazon. Easy to replace.

I'm not sure about "easily", but yes, those L88s were significantly underrated. Mid 11s around 120 seems to be the upper end of its ability. But try to bail that to a stop or throw in some curves...

Is it were me, removing the carpet would be a must... absolutely non negotiable. No way there isn't moisture and possibly mold under there. Maybe soak the books with your favorite penetrating oil
