I had the same concerns as you when I was changing my manifold - the solution was pretty simple. Any machine shop can install a tube for you.

Replace the fitting and see if it does the trick. Zerk fittings are cheap and very simple to replace. It will unscrew right off with a socket. Clean the area first before removing. Good luck!
