Rear noises

My '95 developed lots of rear end noises at about 90k. Speed bumps and cornering or just a bumpy road. Found that the sway bar end links were shot. Pita to replace but totally silenced the bothersome...

Remove silicone caulk

WD-40 is the only way to go when removing silicone caulk. Low toxicity, easy clean up and it really works. Soak a rag or paper towel and cover the area. Cover with plastic wrap to use less WD-40....

A/C on perhaps

My '95 would do that when I bought it (2002). The A/C compressor was running all the time - even with the manual control C60 A/C off. Only when cooler weather arrived (40F and lower) would the...

Power to LPS A/C switch

My '95 with C60 manual temp control always had power to that LPS switch. Lots of searching and measuring led to taking the 'head' out of the dash. The Service Manual shows a rotary switch inside the...

No heat

Are you sure that there's hot water flowing thru the heater core? Earlier years had a flow control valve. Or the core may be plugged up.
To flush the core, take the hoses loose at the block. The...

Cooling fans always on

When I purchased my '95 LT1 auto with C60 A/C (manual control), the compressor always ran and the fans were on low speed. Lots of diagnostic red herrings but in the end the problem was traced to a...

Sway bar end link bushings

I used a long bolt, washers, nut and a socket arranged like a sleeve puller/installer to put the bushings in. Lots of lube too. Really a pita. After they were in, it really quietened the ride. Well...

GDO interferrence

My cell phone does that to my remotes. It upsets the PKE of the Corvette too, especially if the phone is charging in the car.
Try leaving the cell phone in the house.

95 LT1 Starter

I changed mine a few years ago and found the outboard bolt difficult to get a socket on. There's precious little space between the cat and starter.
Eventually tried a 1/4" drive long extension and...

No Heat

Either the heater door is stuck, the core is plugged or the ambient air sensor is shot/disconnected. To check the heater door, remove the module on top of the blower housing (passenger side, near the...

Coolant odor

My '95 had mild coolant odor for over a year and I feared the need for a core replacement coming on. Then one day during a high rev ramp entry, the 'flow control' in the heater hose blew out. Coolant...

Valve travel

Measure the travel of the push rod while cranking the engine and compare it to another valve's push rod travel (both either intake or exhaust). The cam is likely wiped at #7.

Fuel gauge stuck on full

My '95 stuck on full after it was jacked up in the rear for sway bar work (and it was on a downward slope so it was really tilted).
Several days later it returned to normal after an extremely hard...

1996 cooling

The LT1/4 runs hot. The normal operating temp (in traffic) is above the boiling point of pure water under no pressure.
SO, it is likely necessary to add 50/50 antifreeze and get a good cap (15psi)...

Inexpensive 'Rebuild'

55 years ago I was in your shoes with a car that 'burned' 5 quarts of oil going 200 miles to the beach and back. 6 months in a new job with a wife and baby to feed so $$$ were tight.
After work on a...

Antenna

Lots of threads on this (search) but here's some info.
Start with removing the license plate, then the left inboard lamp then the outboard lamp. There are 4 (I think) one-ended wires at the base of...

95 temp

A '95 does not require burping. There is a single brass vent screw on the thermostat housing to vent out the air while filling and during first warm up. Put a towel under it to prevent dripping on...

Caliper bolt torque

Distinguish between the caliper bolts and the caliper bracket bolts. There are two very different specs.
I don't have access to the books now but you can find the specs with a quick 'SEARCH' on the...

VATS Check

Go to this thread, post #3.

Knock Sensors

The hex on my '95 knock sensors were gone too.
Good excuse to buy a huge set of water pump pliers (channel locks). I tried a pipe wrench but it was too big to fit (about 4' long). As mentioned, the...

Rattles and Squeeks

Later C4's had small pieces of Velcro between surfaces of plastic (or fake leather) interior parts that contact each other. My '95 has a few spots where the edge of the Velcro is visible; like where...

Parking brake

It's normal for the parking brake handle to fall loosely once the brake is applied. It will gain tension downward once the button is pushed in (with the handle pulled upward very hard) and the button...
