#3 condition '63 roadster. silver blue, white top, black interior.

no AC, manual brakes, manual steering. 327/300. 4 speed. engine compartment isn't overly dirty but isn't detailed. Bare bones...

What does L2 represent on the trim tag on a 1963 roadster ? And does that jive with a car "birthdate" (VIN birthday calendar) of August 6, 1963 and a July 22 block stamp (F0722) ?

Being a Corvette novice and still searching for a C2 I can afford, I looked at a 1963 roadster...in checking out the frame I noticed black paint flaking off in several places and bright red paint...

without documentation, is there any way to know for sure or are there good clues that a 4 speed 1963 for sale was not originally a 3 speed, or possibly a factory auto trans car ?

Most all C2's are out of my price range, so when one I have a shot at is nearby I get overenthusiastic...and in this case overstressed due my mechanic...
