Might be worth pulling the left-side valve cover to make sure 5 & 7 are getting good enough oil flow.
Also, with the VC off, you may get a better idea of just where the noise is coming from.

In park manifold vac is well into the green, and increases with throttle.
Pull into drive and vac drop out of green and goes lower with throttle.

'89 vert: bow won't release; top "stuck" in down position.

Pressing the button behind the driver's head rest has no effect, not even a "click".
Same issue when setting the parking brake and pressing the console button (yes, it's a 6-speed manual shift)....

The mast should not move easily unless broken from the gear inside the assembly, IMO.

I think replacing the antenna assy. in your '93 won't be a terrible job, like it was on my '88.

Since pinching off the pressure hose holds pressure, I think your analysis of a leaking pump check...

The TB coolant bypass was one for the first mods to my 'new' '89 three yrs ago.

A 160 deg t-stat will add some ponies for sure.

Don't forget to toss that damn "frisbee" from front of the WP...
