I was thinking that this could be a good performance/reliability add on for a ZR-1 because the car could easily be returned to stock and it would have less vibration and of course have less rotating...

Here's a crazy idea. How about buying one of the many ZR-1's on the market that are extreemly close to what you mentioned for about half the price it would cost you to replicate, just my $0.02.
