A lot of good advice here. For the bolt holes I always use a mityvac fluid evacuator first to go down in each hole because coolant can get in some of them. Then I use the ARP head bolt thread chaser....

There is an arrow on the check valve to indicate direction of flow. Did you bleed the system after the pump install? If not, you need uto do that.
