The best thing I've done to my '84 was to replace the original exhaust and cat. I was fortuante enough to have Magnaflow create mine--they used an '84-85 high-flow cat, custom bent a 2-1/2-inch...

Re: PROPER FAN TEMP. (RUSS105)

230 is correct for an '84, but check this out--my car used to continually run up to 230 and back down to about 220, I figured it was normal. Then my half bolted on/half zip-tied on air dam came off....

Re: Rear Main Seal on 84??? (byte_me)

I've been through this on my '84. You might want to check your oil sending unit (it's up near the distributor) first...it can leak oil right into the area you're mentioning.

The other thing to...

Urethane or Fiberglass?

I'm getting ready to replace the very wavy original front and rear bumper covers on my '84. The options are, as I understand it, fiberglass, True-Flex Fiberglass (which, i'm told, is still fiberglass...

Looking for an '84 owner in Nashville

Help! I'm planning on attending Gordon Killebrew's C4 school June 8-9. The problem is, I can't get my '84 there from California. Most students bring their car to the school, for reference during the...

Re: 84 corvette and cooling temp !! (GOBABYGO84)

The only problem I've had with my '84 was a loose hose clamp that was allowing coolant to leak out. Once I fixed that prob, it hits 230, the fan clicks on, and it goes back down, regular as...

Re: Reeves Calloway has gone INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (*89x2*)

You do make a valid point. Editing—you called it polishing—is a standard procedure. I may be splitting hairs here, but I take objection to the word "enhancements." It seems—at least to me—to imply...

Re: Reeves Calloway has gone INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Bigvmaxx)

I understand, Ted. But rumors can be a harmful thing, as most of know. I just wanted to make my position on this particular rumor clear.

Re: Reeves Calloway has gone INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (*89x2*)

And I stand by my statement that you're wrong about the "enhancements" thing, and ought to think before making such a claim without evidence. Otherwise, thanks, and glad you enjoyed the piece.

Re: Reeves Calloway has gone INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Bigvmaxx)

Ted,

All of your questions about what RC said are valid. I don't contest any of them.

Your idea that I could have segued into talking about the LT5, asking the questions myself, is also valid....

Re: Reeves Calloway has gone INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Kale)

Well, not to be rude, but you are missing a few things. The part about not liking the interview is not a problem. Read what was said about me personally—there's the problem.

And we could have a...

Re: Reeves Calloway has gone INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would like to address some of the comments that have been made in this forum concerning the content of the Reeves Callaway interview in the July issue of Vette Magazine. Much as I’d like to...

Re: Before X-Ram Dyno's - 84 Crossfire Vette (kenfusion)

Ken,

To be honest (it's better than trying to keep track of my own BS), I know someone who knows someone...well, you get the idea.

The "the general trade price" listed by TransGo for a 700-R4...

Re: engine oil cooler (EvanLT1)

Evan,

You're asking the question of the hour. Maybe I'll surf some oil company websites and see what I can find out.

I am due for an oil change, though, and am pertty certain I'll be switching...

Re: Upgrade window regulators on 1984, how to ?? (lee.anderson)

Lee,

BLUEVETTE is right on with what has to be done. If you need more info, Vette Magazine did an article on doing the swap in February 2001. I just looked at it again, and there's a parts list,...

To Synth, or not to Synth

OK, I'm sure this has been asked before, but I have to bring it up again: What's the consnsus on using synthetic oil in early C4s? My '84 is showing 99-1/2K on the odo, and is oil tight. I know synth...

Re: Best Place to Buy an Auto X-Ray? (emoshn)

Mid America has it for $199.99.

I'm sure I haven't figured out all the ins and outs of using it yet, but I'm a little disappointed in the amount of info it provided on my OBDI '84. Does the class...

Re: Siamesing a crossfire intake (Dominic Sorresso)

Dom,

Could you elaborate on the shorthand specs? The numbers you're quoting are right in the neighborhood of what I'd like from my X-fire. Thanks.

Re: (Raysur)

I agree that it sounds like 3.07s. If your cars's build sheet is missing, you can buy a copy of the factory one (and a window sticker, too) from the National Corvette Museum.

Re: engine oil cooler (Bob86ZZ4)

Bob,

I agree with you on the autocross deal. My other concern, however, is Silver State-style open-road racing, which means 90-plus miles at triple-digit speeds, and the occasional open-track...

Re: Before X-Ram Dyno's - 84 Crossfire Vette (nsimmons)

Nick,

There's actually a thread down the line discussing oil coolers. If you're only seeing 179 degrees, I'm wondering if I have other probs, since I normally see something around 225 degrees....

Re: engine oil cooler (Bob86ZZ4)

Bob,

Your post speaks to a question I've had. I've been wondering if its worth putting an oil cooler on my '84 before I autocross and Silver State it. Some make the point that an engine that...

Nick, thanks for the numbers. The first things I'm doing to my '84 is...
