Thanks. The machine shop owner told me not to leave it as is- to re-hone it... maybe 1 or 2 passes with a 400 grit flexhone. That is the plan.

The piston ring grooves are correct depth and the compression rings are just below the piston face...

The hole referred to by the OP is an oil passage. Not all small blocks have this passage drilled. Many are drilled & tapped for a 1/4" pipe plug. on some, it was factory plugged with a 1/2"OD "cup"...
