Re: rust removal using batt charger ('75 383 ElkGrove)

It's not electroplating, it's an electrochemical reduction reaction. Rust forms when oxygen in the air strips electrons away from iron and forms iron oxide. By forcing electrons back in, so to speak,...

Re: To Zerk or not to Zerk? (Fevre)

Greasble U-joints are adequately strong if they're installed with the zerk under compression with normal rotation, not under tension.

Re: Just finished off Lars' ignition kit. (Pacin'California)

Well no, they begin S, P, D, and F, which were named for the "Sharp", "Principle", "Diffuse" and "Fine" spectroscopic lines, but after the F orbital the quantum azimuthal numbers are labelled...

Re: Long rambling thoughts and questions on Edelbrock carbs... (vettfixr)

The Thunder series is actually a copy of the old Carter AVS, just as the Performer is a copy of the Carter AFB.

Re: what kind of (carl a)

A Carter M6900 is about all the pump you should ever need.

Why do you think a 750 CFM carb is too big? It's probably the smallest carb I'd consider putting on a 383.

Re: Carter AFB? (72GACRZR)

Federal Mogul bought Carter a while ago. At some point Carter also sold the designs to their carbs to Weber who are casting them for both Carter and Edelbrock.

Re: 700R4 hard shift 1/2 (satx79vette)

The 700R4 has a huge drop in ratio from first to second so the 1-2 shift will feel late and hard compared to a TH350.

Re: TransGo TH350 Shift Improver Kit Installed... (jerryp58)

Actually all the planetary gears in an automatic are always engaged, but systems of clutches are used to hold certain parts stationary with respect to other parts. For a shift to be smooth, the...

Re: Horrid cold weather driveability. Carb issues? Tips PLEASE. (Cookwithvette)

Your choke probably doesn't need a resistor, but in any case removing it will probably make the choke open faster.

Re: TransGo TH350 Shift Improver Kit Installed... (jerryp58)

I'm not a transmission expert, but I could refer you to a few who can better explain exactly what the TransGo kits do. TransGo makes products for professionals (which explains their lack of flashy...

Re: Is it not OK to remove/disable the PCV hose? (joeveto)

You need the PCV valve in one valve cover and a breather in the other. Two breathers or two PCV valves won't do you much good.

Re: Anybody else running braided line to a quadrajet? (nastee383)

Aeroquip FCM2107 should work if you have the 1-20 pipe inlet, or FCM2108 if you have the 5/8-18 inverted flare.

Re: Dyno Graph for :Dyno Test Results!! Holy Moly! Post (427Hotrod)

The "gear ratio" on a dynojet is in RPM/MPH, but thanks for mentioning that, because it made me remember I forgot about tire size.

Re: Dyno Graph for :Dyno Test Results!! Holy Moly! Post (jimbr)

Yes rear wheel torque is affected by gearing. Some dynamometers (like the dynojet) use a spark plug wire pickup to determine the engine RPM, and compare that with the rear wheel RPM to determine...

445 ft lbs at the wheels? So you're making 125 ft lbs at best at the crank?

Re: Carter Carb? (Maurice)

The Carter AFB is the same as the Edelbrock Performer. The Edelbrock Performer Qjets are the same as various Rochester Quadrajets.
