C4 Frame and C3 body?
I was talking to a coworker who is a vette guy and he was telling me about a place in Cali that you can send a C4 frame and suspension to and when you get it back you can drop you C3 body on it. I was told the C4 was better in the ride and suspensipon aspect?? I have never ridden in one to date. Does anybody know about this place or if this is fact or fictional. I am wanting to do a frame off on the 79, :willy: but know it is a BIG job and it probably will not run for 2-3 yrs, :ack: this sounds typical.
Thanks Guys and Gals, Tom |
It all depends. Lots of guys on this forum are years into their frame-offs. I guess it depends on your time, money, and devotion. Me, I work full time and go to school (air force). But I find the time and I have the money from the air force so I expect my frame off portion to be done by or before winter (started a month ago). Good luck!
Bry PS: I think it's worth it, you're bound to find one demon (broken body mount for me :ack: ) |
Would the interior be from a C4 or C3? I'd love to know if the guy who does this conversion has a website, if he in fact exists.

modern chassis conversion:

Is it a c3 frame that c4 stuff has been added to? If I had the money, I would do this http://www.philadelphiamotorsports.com/69C5.html Very cool setup.
|
Thanks. For some reason that link didn't work. I did a search and found it: http://www.carcreationsinc.com/index.html
Interesting and weird. It sounds like they use the C3 frame with C4 components. Maybe I shouldn't sell my '86 after all . . . |
Interesting and weird is right, but even more so -
 $$$$$$$$$ :ack: |
I saw something similar to this, but round tube custom frame to fit c4 suspension in the neighborhood of $6k (I think). Forget who does this, I'll try to dig it up.

What a great resource this forum is, Thanks for the relpies. I had thought if I did the frame off I would want to improve it a little. This sound like an expensive option......... The tube frame sounds  .
Not using the interior of a C4, just the frame and suspension. Also can anybody decode this trim and paint code?? Trim I92 or L92 Paint 13L or 13I Thanks Tom |
I'm not sure, but I think the side frame on the C4 is a "semi space frame" design that has wide side sills. If that is the case, the C-3 won't fit over it. Mounting the C4 suspension on the C3 is probably a good move, if you can get the C3 frame to be stiff enough to take advantage of the suspension.

Here it is:
http://www.sriiimotorsports.com/pages/691639/index.htm $6000 for just the frame, but WOW! http://www.sriiimotorsports.com/imag..._Chassis_1.jpg Highlights: Designed to accept C5 front and C4 rear suspensions Uses C5 17x 8.5" front and 18 x 9.5" rear wheel offsets No exterior body modifications Stock body mounts, bumper mounts and fuel tank More engine room for stock accessories Removable transmission mount QA1 coil-over shocks provide adjustable ride and handling |
$6000 really is not that bad if it includes the Diff...half shafts and all the suspension stuff....It would cost that much to rebuild or replace those components anyway.
This is going to become more and more popular I believe. I saw three guys doing this in Carlisle this year. They were putting C1, C2 and C3 bodies on a C4 & C5 chassis. These were pretty much bolt on frames and all seemed to be of high quality. These guys were getting a lot of traffic and alot of guys were very interested. I have a feeling this will become a real alternative to the NCRS restorations when it comes to High $$$$ cars. As baby boomers get old...they have less interest in rolling around on the floor and want a reliable car they can drive. That 62/C5 car was SWEEEETTTTT!!!!! |
WOW that round tube frame is
Paint it red, then a little chrome here and there!! I don't think the 6000 G's come with the suspension and diff. I just might give them a call. |
Gave them a call and it is 6000.00 for the frame and 12,900 for a rolling chassis. The roller has 87 componets, suspension and rear end. The guy seemed friendly. I would think you would come out better getting a wrecked C5 and use all the suspension and alot of other items off the car. HMM Thoughts to ponder.... Thier rolling chassis has coil overs.. :willy: :willy: :willy:
