How long to install shorty headers?

I have a set of JBA headers (has to be CARB certified here in CA) to go on. How long should this take me if i do it myself?

The performance gain of shorty headers is not worth your time to install, there are plenty of C.A.R.B certified long tube headers available for your car, give Andy a call at A+A www.aandacorvette.com and he can guide you down the right path

Took me about 8 hrs to install B&B Tri Flo shorties by myself using floor jack and stands. Wish I had put on long tubes but was new at Corvette game and one of first mods I did, never heard of the Forum, etc. Will probably swap for longs when I get around to it. Go for longs!

:iagree:

I could not agree more, don't waste your time and money on shorties.

The shorties do increase performance in 97s-2000s.

I already have a set of BBK, which despite being advertised (initially) as 50-state legal, do not have a CARB number. With all my other mods, i have not been unhappy with the shorties. Thing is, i now need to change to JBA which are CARB certified. It's SMOG time and I'm getting failed :banghead:

While the JBA have a CARB#, I have heard of at least one forum member that had problems getting them to line up with the intermediate pipe. I believe he also had a problem getting the drivers side AIR pipe to fit. The only other headers that have a CARB# at present are the B&B shorties which I have. The quality is top notch and everything lines up right but the cost is a lot higher than the JBA.

As far as the installation time goes, it took Andy at A&A about 2hrs to install my B&B's. Of course Andy works fast and has all the right tools as well as a lift. I remember he moved the Alternator out of the way which made the job a little easier

The BBK headers i have were the cheapest. They lined up easily and went on well. I now had the JBA headers put on as the old ones weren't CARB and my smog is due right now. The shop had lots of trouble getting the JBA's on. They said the BBK were much better quality. I also liked the sound with the BBK. I get the car back later today with 7 hours of labor taken out of my pocket.

Hooker shorties have a CARB number also.

I forgot about the Hookers :bb Too bad they are only certified for the '97-'98 C5 :(
