Inlet hose to AC evaporator box...need insulation?

Spring is here! I've been working on my AC and it works good. But, I've noticed that when it is running, there is cold air coming out of the hole where the inlet hose goes into the evaporator box. Should this be sealed up with the tar like AC insulation? I've seen pics on the net where some have it and some don't. Any help would be appreciated. NAPA sells the insulation in a large roll for 18.00 bucks or so. Just want to make sure I need it before I go purchase it.
Thanks!

In a word.......YES! :yesnod:

It -IS- ONE way to cool the engine compartment..........
But a few BTU short for sure.

The black Butyl Tape will be fine, it is likely it is simply old and missing.

Yeah,okay I had an '80.........but that was in 1984. :D
Never gave me a moments trouble!
What a LIE!

Todd, I have noticed your name and Virginia location.
I grew up in Alexandria and have worked with a few guys with your name!
Just wonder if we already knew each other years ago.

Okay,Okay.....I lived in Alexandria.......and Arlington......and Warrenton,....and Springfield.....and Fairfax......and Chantilly......and Manassas, and Woodbridge and chased around schools in Blacksburg and Richmond and Charlottesville and Annandale and Harrisonburg and........

Well,you get it!

SEAL IT UP! Gotta be better.

Cholo,
Thanks for the reply. LOL, I figured the cold air entering the engine compartment would give me a few extra horsies  I'll tape her up tomorrow. That cold air would actually be best used coming out the vents. You had an 80, you know how it is. HOT!
On your other note, I have never spent much time in northern Virginia. I did grow up outside of Blacksburg though. Go Hokies :)
Take it easy....
