What Wheels/Rims Should I Get On A 1971 Corvette Stingray?
I was thinking of getting new rims. I was offered a set of Crigars Chrome but they did not fit they were to big so I am still on the search of new rims...any ideas?

Being a part of the "Old School" of custom wheels, my vote would be for the Cragar SS wheels for a neat retro look. As I recall, the C3 brake caliper is too large and hits the back side of the Cragar spokes when you try to bolt them on. The solution was to use a spacer to get the necessary clearance. A 15x8 wheel would fit nicely with the proper offset.
Another wheel that looks nice is the American Racing "Torq-Thrust" style. Either the Torq-Thrust D or the II series would look  You can get them in custom offsets and backspacing for a C3 so they would fit right. Try the ARE website at http://www.americanracing.com and look in the Vintage section. I personally would stay away from the large diameter wheels (17" on up). They just don't look right on a Shark. You may be limited in tire selection by staying with the 15" wheels, but there are still some decent tires still available. Coker Tire even has some OEM-type red line stripe radial tires that might look nice with a 70's era custom wheel. |
ok thanks My dad had a chance of getting a set for free but they were too big i will look for more

My vote would be for the Torq-Thrust II from American racing. There are unlimited sizing options, so you can go with all 15s, or go to a nice looking 17s all around in either 8" or 7" width. Lots of inexpensive tire options in these sizes too.

Re: (1971Stingray)
Stingray, Halibrand Engineering also make wheels that are similar to the American Torque-Thrust, but in more sizes and offsets. I once mentioned them on this site and someone came back and said they were out of business...I looked a few days ago, and their website is up, running, and recently updated.
I think the 5 spoke "mag" is both classic and timeless, but that's just my $0.02 worth. If you decide to go that route, make sure that you get wheels for a Corvette application, as the 'Vette calipers are big, and could present clearance issues with the backside of the spokes. |
I will post some pictures after i get the set and led i will look at the site u gave me and guys to see some pictures check out my site
