I dont know him personally, but I have spoken with him several times at the track. The vette is a turbocharged small block. HE runs at National Trail on Friday night's for the Year end (KOC) King of Columbus Street shootout. The cars must have DOT's, license and insurance to compete. The best I've seen it run was 7.40's @ 180. Most of the time you see the brake lights come on before the finish line, so I guess he doesn't want to reveal his entire hand. He sold the mustang last year and started running the vette toward the end of the season. Even comparing it to the Nitro cars or Pro Stock it is the most impressive car that I have seen launching.
I ran against his mustang in a time trial a couple years ago, it went 8.66 @ 172 on 10.5" Dot's. It looked like your typical 90's style street mustang except for the roll cage and parachute. He drove it to local cruise-ins all the time.
I dont have his phone number or anything on-hand, but I could probably find away to get a hold of him. When the track opens I know I can, if this ROTTEN weather ever goes away!

Get that dude to come to the challenge! Keith Brownlee needs to be de-throned hehe. I'm partial to that one seeing it looks how my car "Used to" before I painted it blue.

I must have watched those videos ten times! Turbo's are wicked!!! :smash:

Does that car have a tube chassis it must be Very light? I am sure he is capable of more than 180mph considering he is at 147 in the 1/8. That is some car. I would love to see it run.

I'd bet that is a back half car.

In comparison, when I used to be a mustang freak...there was a guy named Jason Betwarda (r.i.p. :blueangel: ) He had a twin turbo duttweiler mustang convertible with a 388 cube MONSTER twin turbo powerplant. During shakedown runs at E town...It typically went 4.80 to 4.90 in the eighth at about the same speed as that vette. When they did let it rip a full 1/4 it did a 7.48@182 before getting kicked off(NHRA rule of full tube required under 7.50) so the corvette in these videos is lilkely to blast to the finish line in the 1/4 to UNDER 8 seconds

Re: Video's of Lee Howie's Turbo Vette - 1/8 mile (PM - NOS - BOOST)

It is a backhalf car. The front end is stock vette with most of the plastic fenderwell liners removed. The turbo looks huge with an inlet pipe @ 4-5". His intercooler setups are usually unique. The mustang for example had a ice box in the trunk that recirculated cold water through the intercooler that was hidden up under the dash/cowling of the car. This car was stealth. It would pull up next to you in the lanes and you would think it was your typical 12-13sec mustang, then 8.6 sec later he's crossing the finish line.

Like I said before he is always on the brake before the finish line, so I dont really know what potential is there. Plus he just started running the vette, Im sure he still tuning and holding back. It is a fuel injected sheetmetal looking intake setup. As far as weight I really dont know, its not like it is gutted,it is not a tube chassie car. I would be surprised if it is under 3100lbs.

Excuse my ignorance but what exactly is a back half car?

Excuse my ignorance but what exactly is a back half car?
Drag racers will back-half a car in order to install bigger rear tires, stronger rear-ends, and a stiffer chassis with suspension components. The floor-boards are removed from the back of the front seats, to the rear bumper, and everything (gas tank, rear suspension, etc.) is literally 'dropped' outta the car. Narrowed, heavy-duty frame rails are installed, usually a smaller fuel cell is placed between the rails at the back, and batteries on either side, in the corners, for weight. A Ford 9" is narrowed, and hung by coil-over shocks and either 4-links bars or ladder bars. A multi-point 'cage' is built in the cockpit, to protect the driver, and further stiffen the chassis. With the frame & housing narrowed, massive slicks & wheels can now fit. Finally, new tin-work is fabricated & mounted along with pre-fabbed wheel tubs, in the rear seat/trunk area (some racers refer to this as 'tubbing' a car). I 'think' I remembered most everything here...
