dumb weekend accident

Did a stupid thing this weekend and I am ashamed of myself.

Took Friday off to fight property tax increase.... took the vette to court after reading from achapman that everyone should take vettes out over weekend. After losing the battle, drove car to inspection shop as I realized my inspection was out. The inspection wait was 3 hours  While I waited I packed the front wheel bearings, lubed speedo cable and tried to balance out car that is 1/4 inch off from left to right. As I was adjusting the rear spring mount, the nut sheered and the spring landed on my finger. After ripping my flattened finger from the spring I lost my nail passed out for 15 minutes and wrote the rest of the weekend off. The shop guy fixed the spring with a new nut and gave me an inspection without charge. I am going to the doctor at 3pm but I think I will survive. :conehead

Hey Daren,

We all do stupid things, thankfully you lived to tell the tale. I lost my two front teeth when I dropped the tranny of a 63 SWC (not mine) on my face. That's when I was 20 something and was invinceable.... :yesnod:

Hope it wasn't your shifting hand....

Daren I am sooo sorry.I have done stupid thing (that I have know were stupid the secound I have done them) and have had to pay dearley for them.(I am recovering from a surgery I had done on the 17th of this month from a stupid mistake in 1997) I can honestly say I understand how you feel emotionally and phycicly. The doctors visit should have been at the time it happened not now.But I am sure your doctor will tell you that at your visit.
Good luck with your recovery, and I hope nothing is permanent with this injury.

Also if I read your post correctley this is acapmans fault I wonder if he will lose and points from this matter

Pretty impresive how much pressure that spring is under. When I was doing my rear suspention I was so afraid of that letting loose I had it saftey chained and also a nylon webbed ratching tie down holding it.

Hey Daren:

Sorry for your digit. Fingers have waaaaaaay to many nerve endings in them, as I'm sure you'll agree today. I work with machinery failures and injury accidents fairly frequently and the major injuries usually come from some sort of energy release, such as your Vette suspension spring or a taut cable, or maybe some type of spring-back from a highly loaded piece of structure, etc. Ouch!

Where do you live daren from your profile it says new york NY I thought if you were in the city you did not pay high property tax's I thought they were rediculously low thats why our city firemen and police men wer paid less then the same of the suburbs

Don't worry Darren or think to much into it we all make thoose mistakes, right now I have a hole drilled in my wedding fingernail to releve the pressure from a garage accident 2 months, just remember the nail will grow back.

Ditto what others have already said .. Sorry that happened to you .. I would venture to guess everyone here has had an "experience", or two along the way .. Sure ain't funny, at first, when it happens .. But then humor seems to find a way to smooth things over a bit .. Kinda.. ?.. :D ..

Geez, Andy .. I coulda' swore I saw your pic before .. ?! .. :troll

Oww! Owww!

I usually abuse my knuckles, rather than my fingers. Between things twisting off and slipped wrenches, I've got some lovely scars.

Daren, I was visualizing the spring hitting your finger as I was reading your post. It happens quickly doesn't it??!!! I almost cut my middle finger off last year with a compound miter saw. I brought the blade down and it was off the mark, so I left the saw running and pushed the board TOWARDS the blade (with it running) and my hand slipped into the blade. Took about a 3/8" by 3/8" square chunk of meat out of the end of my finger and put a nice sawblad shaped cut in my nail too!!!

What a dumbbutt!!!! I've used saws for 20 yrs and knew better, but I was in a hurry. I was just glad to look down and see my finger was still there. I'm sure you had the same feeling. It will heal, and you will be back on good terms with your "girl" in a few weeks. Brian
