Who's keeping XM or Onstar after free runs out?

Me neither. I would like onstar if I crashed in the hillcountry doing the twisties but I only got 2 or 3 times a year. Being in the broadcast business for years i think xm has got to have some of the worst radio stations ever. So I will either listen to free radio or my mp3 player. Plus something feels wrong about paying for radio to me.

Ya'll?

With all the free radio apps out there (Pandora, Milk, etc...) it's only a matter of time before satellite radio dies. Not only do you have to pay for the service, but the signal is of lower quality than what you get with an app and a smart phone.

If you like sat radio though, they offer it now for $5/month, so it's not a ridiculous price like it used to be.

I have XM on my other two cars so definately will.

Once my free year of Xm/Sirius runs out, I will renew (and I will get the $87 a year deal again or I won't).

My free OnStar sub runs out at the end of this month and I've already re-up'd on the cheaper plan ($169/year) 'cause all I want is the Smartphone app and diagnostics. I don't need turn-for-turn....

Remotely unlocking doors, activating horn and lights and remote start for factory-equipped vehicles are among services General Motors will make standard via smartphone for five years through the OnStar RemoteLink Mobile App. This is for 2014 model years and up....and you don't need to pay for services.

Even if you don't subscribe to Onstar, if you push the help/emergency button, someone will answer.

The ONLY radio "APP" I need is TuneIn Radio. As long as I can play that through any means, I will be set. Over 100,000 Internet Radio Stations at your fingertips broken down by Continent, Country, State, City, or Genre. It is excellent and I wish this was something invented when I thought AM radio was "Da Bomb"

I didn't keep Onstar as I believe they charge way too much for the service you get and they will not deal with you at all. I however did renew XM as it only cost $18.75 for six months. When you call to renew it just keep bargaining down until they give you there best offer. Make sure you tell XM to "not" put you on automatic renewal as when sbuscription runs out they will chagre you the maximum price.

OnStar and sat radio are not worth the monthly rates IMO.

flaagan 07-10-2014 10:04 PM

OnStar probably not. I didn't use it on my 3600+ mile road trip back from Bowling Green, sure as heck not likely to use it in my own area. Satellite radio, however, I am absolutely keeping. I won't keep as expansive a package as the 'freebie' one covers, just the basics works for me, but all of our vehicles that support it have it and it's just too nice to give up for the crappy local stations.

If the Traffic on the Nav. unit is the same as on my Impaula it requires XM to work. I have droped from having Xm on all 4 of my cars to just having it on my DD. I hate having a feature like XM or full Nav. that doesn't work.

CORVETTEZL1001 07-10-2014 10:34 PM

Keeping both.

Sadly that's me too! In the end it's not that much money relative to the price of the car even though i rarely listen to satellite radio. I want the travel features and can't bear the thought of having options that don't work.

Sin City 07-10-2014 10:41 PM

I've renewed Onstar already but XM I think is going bye bye

Bodene 07-10-2014 10:50 PM

I let my OnStar expire. I couldn't justify the cost plus the fact that they were calling and emailing me that my account was about to expire pissed me off. When I finally spoke to someone from OnStar, they wanted to know the reason I wasn't renewing. I stated that they were too pricey and they bothered me too much! I will keep XM but my dealer said to let it expire (or close to it) and wait for the best deal they offer.

Expensive Corvettes...cheap owners.....

It always amuses me how so many of us owners buy these expensive Corvettes and then freak out at the prospect of paying a few bucks more for little luxuries like Sirius/XM, OnStar, and Navi.

It's like we have these indulgent cars and yet we won't spend what amounts to the cost of an extra pizza per month to maximize the ownership experience. "Yep...I'll blow 60 70 or 80K on a new car, but I'll be darned if I will spend 20 bucks more per month!"

Reminds me of when I sold new Oldsmobiles and Cadillacs and folks would pass up the "factory" floor mats cause they could get cheap floor mats at WalMart. People. Go figure.....

You read my mind on this.

I'm very amused by it.

When I got my '09, I thought " I will see, but no way I will keep paying for radio." That was until I listened to it, and decided it was much better than FM in the DC area, and road trips just confirmed my opinion.

The OnStar portion sounded much like insurance: It's a service you pay them that you are betting that you need, and they bet you don't. As a woman, I like this, in the abstract, but it wasn't till I witnessed an accident and pushed the emergency button, and called services to the scene minutes earlier than would have otherwise been possible for the victims, that I realized how much I appreciate that.

I drive a lot by myself (cross-country many times), and for me it was a no-brainer to keep it once the six-month (I believe) trial period will be over. I just transferred my account over when I purchased the C7.

buckeye4 07-10-2014 11:24 PM

XM yes, OnStar no.

Kruegmeister 07-10-2014 11:54 PM

XM for sure.
OnStar is a joke at the price. Wake up GM, nobody wants to pay $30 a month for something we get on our cell phones (Nav).

:iagree:

My wife and I went on Vac. and used my IPhone on her Acadia and did not miss the OnStar or the XM ( used free Pandora)
