A revolution in engine technology for all car heads to say " good job" now its GMs turn to up the ante. How is it that a corvette guy has his head up his ass most of the time thinking a vette is the only sports car in town? Take it down a notch and recognize another achievement in RD for us the gear heads. More technology equals more hp for all of us. I am a vette owner but also own 4 other brands and models. My daughter has a 392 challenger and all in the family love all cars. My next cars probably will be a new Z and maybe a hellcat. Yes, both at the same time. Of course I need to get rid of a few others but its time in my life I own a part of history. GM and Dodge. I don't think Ford will sit on their hands either. Another 5.8 monster with new cam and heads, headers and new exhaust gets it over 700 hp so don't count them out. GM just may slip the LT4 in the next gen ZL2 and if they do....maybe one more for my garage. Only kidding....but dreams could come true.

Awesome vid thanks for sharing this......looks pretty easy to swap to a smaller SC'r pulley on that thing just like the GT500.

A lot of nervous/anxious suits at GM today after this news broke hahaha.
I was considering a stingray or the new z06 or even a zl1 but now I'm waiting to see what this cat is all about.

"Most powerful muscle car ever". Pretty awesome to be able to say that. Can't wait to test drive that thing.

ever hear of a car called Viper?

It still doesn't answer my question..

One thing to keep in mind. He says the fastest muscle car in history. Not the fastest sports car in history.

They are being smart and basically only comparing it to other muscle cars.

Yea..... Cause so many people race their cars at the ring, and there are so many people hitting curves on public street roads at 100mph:leaving:

It's a muscle car, and if the 10 second stock 1/4 is true, people who aren't at the top of their game in a new Z, viper(which will get more HP than the hellcat) will get embarrassed.

Theta 07-03-2014 02:57 PM

Seriously can't wait to humiliate one of these if I ever run into one (never seems like you get to match up with the cars you'd like to out there). The look on their/your face is priceless - I've had it myself after getting smoked by a Z06 (while I had the blower, he just had a built engine).

I don't think he'd believe me if I told him it was stock from the cam profile we're using.

Man, I hope so. With the sales figures being absurdly low, they need to put life back into the line.

I love the Viper, absolutely love it. I was stunned to see such poor sales figures, but perhaps a blown powerplant with ~750hp will rejuvenate their market.

Hellcat?????

I agree the Hellcat sucks. The Vette is the coolest and best looking car available at a reasonable price. Dodge is totally outclassed. Don't waste our time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JoesC5 07-03-2014 03:26 PM

While I like seeing Dodge up the ante, at ~4333 pounds(SRT8 manual has a curb weight of 4253 lbs and I'm guessing ~80 lbs for the blower) divided by 707 HP, that's 6.13 lbs/HP.

My old obsolete C6 Z06 with 505 HP and 3175 lbs = 5.78 lbs/HP.

C7 Z06 at ~3500 lbs divided by 650 HP = 5.38lbs/HP.

Corvettinator 07-03-2014 03:40 PM

I love to see HP wars 2.0. A rising tide lifts all ships.

But, as several people here have pointed out, real "car guys" understand power-to-weight ratios. A 4300lbs+ car would need 850-900BHP to keep up with a C7Z. Assuming it could even put that much power down. There are eventually HP limits to RWD cars on DOT tires.

Besides, a muscle car shouldn't even be discussed on a sports car site, unless it is in the other(fatass) car section. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...1694faddfc.gif

The Z06 will still be quicker and faster in a straight line by a considerable amount. Let's not even discuss track, because the Z06 destroys basically anything let alone a 4300 lb pig built on an oversized sedan chassis.

Why, nothing wrong with muscle cars and for some they are more practical than a Vette. But why not look at the Z28, that is some strong claims by Dodge/SRT. The Z28 is lighter and I bet is will get around a road course much faster than a challenger even with the Hellcat. If you take a new Z28 and then supercharge it like the Hellcat you are well over 707 on the LS7 engine.

Doesn't the Challenger (E Series Benz) weigh like 4,000 pounds?

S.

1,000lbs more is the equivalent loss of 100+HP.

Plus the Hellcat has Zero handling.

So add 100HP to the Z and we have 750HP+

I wonder who will win the race? :toetap:

Yes, there may be. Or there may not be. :)
