Lowered, de-badged, sinister - "this car eats children"

...an apt description by a coworker last week if i do say so myself. i've lowered on the stock bolts and feel it could still use a bit more of a drop, but will live with it for now. other mods include a complete de-badge, replacement of the crossed flags with black ones and a rattle can job on the "retainer." i was able to work loose all tabs on the grill insert save for the last one and ended up ripping it off in a fit of rage. i had started with the vinyl kit, but quickly f'ed it up and threw it away. i have ordered replacement inserts which i will have professionally painted and cleared. the stock one is not terrible and the paint looks really good, but i'd rather have a complete replacement with all tabs intact.

btw, i LOVE this car, even during break-in. so much fun. so tight, rigid and composed. so 'MURICA.

horns up! \m/

I agree on the pops of color. The elliptical shape of the side markers is new enough and good looking enough for me to keep them. (And there is the slight improvement in safety un-tinted.)

Your Stingray looks fantastic with your mods! Excellent photography, thanks for posting the great pics.

Looks good. Needs the windows tinted. Where were the photos taken? I like the background and I am always looking for places to shoot car photos. I'm near Plano. Shoot me a PM with the address if you can. Thanks.

Jodyhighroller3 04-26-2014 05:11 PM

Looks great in my opinion the black rims look the best

i can't seem to give it up long enough to get it tinted! must. finish. break-in. :willy:

that locale is the backside of the lowes/bestbuy/target at 121 and custer.

Snorman 04-26-2014 05:32 PM

That car looks great!
The yellow calipers really pop against the CG and black wheels. CG was my second color choice and seeing a car with the same accents as mine, I realize I couldn't have gone wrong with either choice.

Stunning images of a fantastic Vette, IMO, best pics of CG I have seen to date!

RedC7AZ 04-26-2014 06:32 PM

Nice!!

Yellow Calipers nice combo with CG.

Stick to molluscs and crustaceans as a staple food though.

rstrait 04-26-2014 06:35 PM

Never thought I'd ever say this but the black wheels look good. Sinister or bad ass, it looks it! I might consider black wheels when I get my shark gray 2015.

Looks nice & mean. Some folks have noted that their car settles down & rides lower after you put a few miles on it.

OldJedi 04-26-2014 07:12 PM

Really nice looking car. I am going to be changing my flags front and rear to black also. I know you can use WD-40 and dental floss to remove the letters and stingrays but how did you remove the flags? They are inset into the body a little bit. Thanks

Scoobydoobydoo 04-26-2014 07:25 PM

Really does look Bad A@S. Nice job on the mods.

LDYSTIG 04-26-2014 07:46 PM

Very nice looking ride. Digging the yellow calipers

dovervold 04-26-2014 07:48 PM

OK, you car is on my Top 5 list of best looking Stingray's. Color combo nasty! I pick mine up on Monday: TR, CB mirrors and spoiler, black wheels, already have blacked out badges and Corvette script on my garage table, and will get windows tinted. Both of these colors are going to be show stoppers with black accents!

Q- how did you F-up the stripe for the grill brace? I have one from FX Stripes and was hoping it would be an easy application to get rid of that hidious chrome brace.

And lastly, YOUR CAR IS HOT!!!

Motohead279 04-26-2014 07:57 PM

Great looking car and fabulous quality pictures - thanks for sharing! Did you take those?

Any thoughts of getting your windows tinted? Then it would really look sinister!

Thank you and thanks everyone for the compliments. I am the photographer. It's a hobby I picked up a couple of years ago.

Yellow calipers were a perfect choice, striking.

ChuckWalters 04-27-2014 10:03 AM

Not one thing sucks about this car!! EXCEPT, that Texas, like NY makes you put those big hideous REG and INSPECTION stickers in the drivers side lower front window! Other than that....AWESOME!

fredl11 04-27-2014 10:07 AM

Wise Guy :)

Quick Silver Z 04-27-2014 10:55 AM

Congrats, beautiful car! Too bad about the vehicle stickers on the windshield though.

Patriot77 04-27-2014 11:04 AM

Absolutely Beautiful an Awesome looking car. Let me throw you 3 potential suggestions. Call Pete at Showstopppers and put on the even larger rear spoiler. Then call ACS and put on a front splitter and also the aggresive looking side rockers. Then your car would even be more "aggressive" looking. And don't forget to get the custom liscense plate that says:"ETSKIDS". Ha-Ha.

killascrimp 04-27-2014 11:06 AM

rattle can job on the "retainer." i was able to work loose all tabs on the grill insert save for the last one and ended up ripping it off in a fit of rage. i had started with the vinyl kit, but quickly f'ed it up and threw it away. :willy:

OMG I bought the tool as well and got to the last tab then "snap" got her right now but man i feel ya Looks like a beast...

Glen e 04-27-2014 12:30 PM

Take the broken tab and dremel it into a "spade", slip it back in the slot with a dab of silicone and it'll hold forever, not too big of a deal. I'm running two broken ones, no one could ever tell.

the adhesive on the flags is a bit different then that on the other badges. it's a thicker, foamy, rubber core with two sides of adhesive that comes up rather quickly once you get the flags off.

what i did is heat the flags with a hair dryer for around 30 seconds until the emblem was very warm to the touch. next, i worked floss up under a top corner and started to saw and pull simultaneously towards me (away from the car) until a had about an inch of the corner free. then, i placed a flat head screwdriver behind the emblem and pulled toward me, NOT using the screwdriver for any leverage against the paint (i was not prying it off) until i had enough of a purchase on the emblem to get a finger behind it and pop it off.

you can pull the foam adhesive core off in large chunks and use goo gone or 3M adhesive remove to take off the clear tape-like adhesive that's left.

i had NEVER worked with vinyl before and that **** is microns thin. i couldn't seem to get a good purchase for an anchor point and ended up with the strip coming completely off of the backing and getting dirt all over it on the floor. i'm sure that most people can handle it, but i have zero patience for something so tedious.

fred, i took the pics. i'm brad white. it's a hobby of mine. i shoot with a nikon D7000 and i used a nikon 85/1.8G lens yesterday that was wide open at F1.8 or F2 for most of these shots. the side profile shot was done with my fuji x100s, a fixed lens camera (23MM) at F4.

Very nice, thank goodness you didn't go with chrome wheels!

Patriot77 05-02-2014 05:10 PM

Oh, I also wanted to congradulate you on thinking ahead of the game and covering up the silver bar in the front grille. I can't even put into words on a real dark colored car with black wheels just how "bad" that silver bar looks on these cars. I still to this day can't believe GM allowed that to get out to the public. It just looks hideous. Your car is totally awesome.

I wonder how it would look if the brake calipers were painted to match the sidemarkers... red on the rear and amber on the front.
