Are you talking Energizer or Powermax?
What gears do you have in the car? And lastly shouldn't you be saving for a Big Block? |
Re: Cam specs? Crane 272... (SuperFast80)
Crane has been advertising the 272 in various magazines stating the 272 out Preforms the Comp Cam XE 262 in tourque & HP, On a 350 chevy up to 6000 rpm.My winter project was to put the XE262 in my 427, may consider the 272 , but have a few months to do more research , looking for big mid range TOURQUE , for my street driver ,compatable with my 308 rear gears & the breathing of Endlebrock Alum heads...currently best ET with L36 CAM , 13.7 @102 mph,,,, :) :seeya :flag

Re: Cam specs? Crane 272... (SuperFast80)
This from my website
The camshaft was replaced with a Crane HMV-272 Max Velocity dual pattern hydraulic cam. The cam has a duration of 216 degrees intake and 228 degrees exhaust @ .050 lift and has a max lift of .454 inches on the intake and .480 on the exhaust. If I remember correctly the cam is ground on 114 degree lobe centers. I can tell you that it's a really nice cam that idles well down to about 850 rpm and wakes up nicely at around 2200. I didn't give up very much torque down low and can lug the engine around town in 4th at 1200 rpm all day. [Modified by vettfixr, 7:43 AM 7/18/2002] |

I installed this cam many years ago in my 355 Vette motor after reading a Hot Rod mag. article. They were able to get a dynoed 382 hp with Sportsman II heads 9.5 c/r and 600 cfm carb. I used 1.6 CC roller tips to get more lift and my motor was more modified than the HR test motor. It was a nice cam and I was able to get 12.60's second 1/4's. I have since installed it in a few pickup trucks because it's such an all around cam. |

I used one for years in a 355 with carb and later with TB FI. It was a great little street cam.

Re: Cam specs? Crane 272... (StrayDog)
I'm really at a point that I don't know what to do next. 1st I installed the comp 262 roller cam in a 88 IROC with TPI and 700R4. It was great. So I installed the hydraulic 262 in my vette and it's great. Now I'm getting ready to build a 383 for my 73 Z-28 and I don't know what to do. I read that the crane powermax 272 is advertized as better than the 262 but I don't know. As so now I think I might try it out. Does it have a rougher idle? And as much torque ar the 262?
