They can all be repaired. It's not like they don't have the resources to fix them. The real problem may be that they have to move the museum. Now that will cost money.

I didn't know sinkholes were an issue in KY. I was just in there a week ago toady!

I still plan on going to the Bash if they remain open.

No one hurt because no one was on site. An alarm was set off in the early morning hours before anyone arrived.

I fear the cars will never be recovered from the sinkhole. It's probably going to be deemed too dangerous.

They don't always even get to recover human remains from sinkholes, let alone cars.

The only positive thing I've heard thus far, is a geological professor/expert on sinkholes examined the site and called it a "classic" sinkhole for the area. Hopefully this will mean that the sinkhole occurred and now the site, and the surrounding area are stable. If that's the case this shouldn't be too terrible of an incident.

They're going to have to drill, use electronic tools, maybe even ground penetrating radar to see what's happening down there.

I think you are exactly right, the guy in Florida in the house sleeping was never recovered....but maybe they are more ingenious than we think.

Thankfully no people were hurt, but as for the cars ... well ... a "repaired/salvage" one millionth Corvette (as just one example) is never going to be the same as an "all original, perfectly preserved" one millionth Corvette. Some of those cars were basically priceless for what they were. This is a very sad day for any real Corvette enthusiast. :(

The corvette community is damn lucky to have such a beautiful facility to gather. On top of the fact, that its growing more and more all the time. To see such a thing happen is a tragedy, and should sadden anyone who calls themselves a Corvette enthusiast.

I'm not saying we should mourn here, but shedding light on something that could be even more of a tragedy if the ground isn't safe...it's no laughing matter. This is serious. The museum is funded by the people, not by GM...they aren't backed by GM dollars and resources.

The money of Corvette enthusiasts built that room...any one of us who have been there contributed to that buildings existence because that's what your dollars do. I've spent thousands on raffles, at the bash auctions, visited too many times to count. I give generously to see this place survive, and it's in a temporary state of jeapordy.

Recovery - very doubtful. Looking at the photos you can only see parts of a few vehicles. To recover you will need cranes to lift the cars which will be hard to install given the bad foundation and close proximity to the sink hole itself. The cars are goners; and probably there will be major structural considerations for the museum itself.:flaghalfmast:

To use a crane the building would need to first be removed to give the crane access. Unless somehow someone thinks they are going to get a crane inside the building that sits on the sinkhole.

Sad day indeed , been there many times since 1995, Thank god it was closed at the time, I have been there for events when there could have been easily 100 people in that area. Hopefully the building , the dome and the cars can be saved :flaghalfmast:
