Why do some wide body owners look down on the narrow body?

I think both models drip high performance when you look at them.

I think the wide body with the flared fenders and wider wheels and tires and the vents looks more muscular/faster. I am assuming that's part of the appeal. And they are more suitable for the track with the stiffer suspension.

I own a 2010 3LT coupe narrow body with the NPP and think it is an awesome car. Of course it had to be torch red with black leather lol
I like the softer ride as I take long road trips to interesting places.

I also agree 90 percent of the public can't tell the difference if the cars are not side by side. After all the physical difference in width is 3.3"

Each car is more suited than the other depending on what you are going to use it for.

I think both models are awesome and if I wasn't using the car for long road trips I could have been just as happy with a wide body. I don't think we should be snubbing each other over our choices. GM knows that different people want different things and so they give us 3 choices in corvettes.

I get lots of compliments on my car and the classic sleek looks of the narrow body will never go out of style just as the muscular look of the wide body will never go out of style. Do you ever get tired of looking at your car? lol

And of course everybody knows the narrow bodies are faster ;-)
less wind resistance....(joke) Don't start flaming me haha

Mr.Impulse 12-13-2013 07:13 PM

There's a narrow body Corvette?

MikeERWNC 12-13-2013 07:21 PM

The funny thing is, that the general driving public has no clue the difference between narrow, wide body, C6, C5, C4...

It is just a Corvette. The car which small penis'd, douche bags drive.
So no matter what Corvette we drive we should all just get along.

billyboy47 12-13-2013 07:41 PM

i'm not sure why some grand sport guys put the base car down, but this much ican say, things will change if the 014 z comes in the same body style as the new base models. i haven't heard if they're going to make the wide body in the new model cars. if they plan on doing so maybe someone out there can enlighten me. i hope they do because i think the new style would look great in wide body. i have the base 2lt and i was thinking of trading up for the g.s. but thought better of it due to maybe going with the new style vette. it looks awesome in person.

Johnny_B_Good 12-13-2013 07:59 PM

For most it's all about looks. Not sure if wide body Vette owners put down the narrow body Vettes, but I can say this, I’ve seen both car savvy enthusiasts and non-car people alike swoon over the wide body Vette and not give more than a passing glance to other Vettes regardless of the year or style or how shiny it may be.
The kick-ass aggressive stance of the wide body can’t be overlooked. Is the narrow body faster? Who gives a rats rump since most cars are not tracked and going much beyond the speed limit will get your a$$ a ticket or worse.

It's human nature (albeit a lousy one) to divide ourselves as many way as possible. I went to college, I'm better. You're short/fat/ugly, I'm tall, so I'm better. I got the V6/V8, not the little 4 cyl. I got the I phone 5. I have a BMW. We stayed at the four seasons. We ate at GlamGlam restaurant. Surgeon Magichands did my ACL repair. Many seem to like to say they have the best, and sometimes, they disparage what you have/did to make the point.

Aren't the narrow bodied cars more aerodynamic hence faster?

yamabob 12-13-2013 09:42 PM

Personally I think n the narrow body is a disgrace. Tar and feather them all. With my wide body I get tax rebates, song sung around campfires and I believe my hair is thicker.Narrow body-Yugo...I can't tell :)

noz34me 12-13-2013 09:44 PM

It's simple, really= = human nature like someone else said.

As humans, when we spend more for something that is similar to something else that is less expensive, generally speaking we want acknowledgement about our superiority. Unfortunately, when that recognition is not received we then move on to putting down the others vehicles helping them "see the light".

I think we are also seeing that amongst many of the new C7 owners.

And no, I'm not saying all wide body or all C7 owners are like that, but there's a lot that are.

Just because someone owns a corvette, that doesn't mean they have class.

If they have that attitude, they are: 1) insecure, 2) have small manhood, and/or 3) just a general prick.

I wouldn't worry about it. I see comments on here everyday which prove there is definitely a "prick" of some and they just can't help themselves.

Rich Mickol 12-13-2013 10:07 PM

No problem with the "narrow body". Had two myself, an 05 and 07. This is from a current GS owner. I like them all.

The wide body is so wide I couldn't get it through the garage door, so I stayed with my much narrower 06. :willy:

Wayne O 12-13-2013 11:46 PM

Face it, most of the public couldn't tell a C6 from a Z06 from a ZR1 if you did park them side-by-side. Hopefully no 'widebody' C6 owners look down on a narrow body C6. If they do that's their problem. Be self-assured....both the C6 and wider body versions of the C6 are beautiful cars!

Baxter's Dad 12-13-2013 11:57 PM

Human nature.
Just like:
Coupe v. Vert
LS3 v. LS2
Manual v. Auto
Black v. All other colors
Tinted windows v. Untinted windows
Black wheels v. Chrome Wheels
ZR1 v. Z06
And on and on....
If yours isn't just like mine then it must be inferior.

I would let you in on why, but I don't have to explain myself to you narrow bodies.

kimdjay 12-14-2013 12:19 AM

Well then why don't us narrow body base lovin owners start talking trash on those short fat little wide ass ones. I mean those losers can't even make it out of the driveway without dragging on the ground. Lol. I love corvettes. :-)

I "look down" at the narrow body and I have one...I wish I had a widebody, but wouldn't pay to have it done as i'd rather have power mods first

Jeff-Ford 12-14-2013 01:26 AM

I`ve never really noticed any wide body owners "looking down" on narrow body owners. Hell I always thought they needed those few extra inches on their car to make up for what mother nature didn't. :) J/K.

MaverickOrig 12-14-2013 05:22 AM

For me (in a narrow body), those 3 inches are all that separate me from other cars, i mean idiot drivers, on the road or in the parking lot.

Yeah, I'm around Washington DC area. Those 3 inches have saved me more than cash at the tire store.

Don't get me wrong, like the look of the wide body, but the narrow is still a fine looking car.

YMMV

Hameister 12-14-2013 07:51 AM

Look at it this way...

Some guys like over weight women, but most like the slender types.

Some guys like a 34 B, but most would prefer a 38 DD.

Some guys like romantic comedies, but most prefer action movies.

Some guys like tofu, but most would prefer a cheeseburger.

It's the same with Corvettes.

Some like the narrow body base car, while most discerning, discriminating car enthusiasts, prefer the kick a$$ lookin' wide body.

See, it's simple. :lolg:

boraxman 12-14-2013 08:58 AM

im happy with my choice/:lol:

Stan0324 12-14-2013 10:16 AM

I own a 11GS and I like ALL Corvettes regardless of year, wide body or whatever.

If a wide body owner looks down at a narrow body car, then they are not real Corvette people, just folks going thru a fad and wanting to own a Corvette for a year or so.

My advise, ignore them, they will soon go away.

rakuhn 12-14-2013 10:44 AM

Does it really matter what other people think of our individual taste in cars?

truckplay 12-14-2013 10:50 AM

it really depends on the person.

z folks look down on gs folks because their cars are fake.
gs owners look down on thin body cars because theirs are wider.
c6 owners look down on c5 owners because theirs are newer
and recently, it happened to me the other day, c7 owners look down on c6 owners.

it is THE EXCEPTION, but you can't even count on a wave from a fellow corvette drivers anymore

most of us just love driving our cars and share the joy with anyone else, regardless of their cars, even those SILLY EURO TRASH cars :hide:

don't sweat it.

Oompha! That's a sweet lookin' ride ya got there.

The problem with all these issues...ZR-1, ZO-6, GS, Base, Vert, Coupe, Run Flats, Non-Run Flats, M6 vs. A6, Best Color, Black Wheels, Chrome Wheels, C6, C7, C2, C5, etc. etc. ad infinitum, ad nauseum, is manifested only on forums.

In the real world, each of us buys the car we like, the TV we prefer, the lawn mower that suits our needs, and who the hell cares what anyone else thinks???

BUT, as soon as we get on a forum site, it becomes, "my choice is better than your choice". The whole thing is really stupid. :crazy2:

Actually OP the ride of an F55 GS is better than you think. I had an 08 before and loved it but there wasn't a difference in ride. The main advantage is that your crappy OEM Goodyear tires last longer than the crappy OEM Goodyear tires on the GS.

I have stated in other posts that I never much cared for the C6 until the Z06 came along. Having said that, now that I own a wide body 427, I have come to appreciate all the C6's because narrow or wide, they all have the classic smooth lines that I love. Maybe it is even the suttle little things like the addtional nose scoop and the rear scoops, I don't know. The wide body has the appearance of being more aggressive but a narrow body with up size wheels and tires looks pretty awesome as well. I think if you like the C6 you appreciate both models as being the magnificent rides they are. Let's drive!

haljensen 12-14-2013 07:17 PM

The GS was a cheap simple way for GM to get more $$.

Flare the fenders, use the Z06 brakes, suspension and tires (it only adds about 170#'s) and charge an extra $7,000.00 or so.

More expensive, slower and heavier than the C6 but sells well with more profit for GM.

BINGO!!!! Same conversation over on the Dodge Challenger forum, and many others I suspect. Many SRT owners look down on the R/T and SE owners- - -and on down the line. When Dodge came out with the SXT trim that made the SE (6 cyl.) look very close to an SRT, you would have thought it was criminal.

And don't get me started about badging issues.

Until this thread I never gave it a thought. I have a G.S. but, only because I like the overall look of the vehicle. I had a C5 and wanted a C6 and the G.S. was available at a price I was comfortable with. Funny part is, I never thought of the G.S. (Zo6 etc.) as better, just DIFFERENT. To the OP, I wouldn't lose any sleep over this, most of us just love Corvettes, ALL CORVETTES.

narrow vs wide

We just sold our 08 Velocity Yellow vert base car. We loved this car. Someone just wanted it so it went to a proud new owner.
We found a 13 Grand Sport and like it very much. I have to say having both that each has certain advantages over the other.
I for one would never look down on a base car as they call it even though its any thing but base.

Due to aerodynamics, isn’t the narrow body slightly quicker?

My wife, whos idea it was to buy the car, prefers the narrow body, and I have to agree, as it is wide enough for us.

Thanks for resurrecting a six year old thread...….

The wide body was an after thought! :hide:

.....and I thought I was the only one.

Less mass to rotate around the wheel hubs with narrower, lighter tires and wheels on the narrow bodies. Are the brake rotors smaller also? That'll be a factor as well.

Wide body wouldn't fit in my garage.

I like the base cars because they remind me of the C2's and C3's. Never lost my love for them.....

:iagree:

When I look out of the windshield at the tops of the 2 fenders, I almost feel like I'm still driving my C2!

[Personal preference].

I never cared for any Corvette other than the the C2, until the C6 was released. And I never wanted to own one until the wide-body Z06/GS models came out. I think the Base narrow body cars look plain looking, to me. I bought a GS. I definitely don't like the C7 Stingray either. The wide body C7 looks better, but would never buy one because I think the C6 has the real Corvette look.
