So glad they retained the iconic Z06 designation and did not call it the "Z07"- that would have been epically stupid. Like changing to the Porsche 912 Turbo.

Also time to eat crow all you "it's a wide body already" and "it won't have flared fenders or wider tires" prognosticators.

No way Chevy would have tried to sell a narrow body base model as a Z06.

Looks like it's got the wide body that so many are clamoring for.

Was there ever any doubt? Only the C7 haters found issues with this or that. The C7 Z06 will bring all those on the fence over permanently to the C7 side.....the bragging rights folks were just waiting for this shoe to drop. Now the new C7 lineup has its beast.

I would think if GM's representation of the C7Z being the most track capable Corvette ever is true, then folks will be quite thrilled.

Is that a black plastic fender extender to cover the top of the front tires? I thought that that was exclusive of 4X4 off roaders with huge wide tires so they were legal when driven on the street.

My guess is that i'll be carbon fiber and flow into the front splitter somehow.

The widebody cometh - would love to see a 427 vert version!

BlueOx 12-04-2013 02:52 PM

What color is that? Looks like a darker yellow/peach-like color but maybe it is just the pic is darker.

I had to concede...the fight was rough!:D

Maybe it is because I'm stoked about the new "Z".

c7 zo6 price

I am looking at a few months old Road and Track and at the list in the back of the issue where it lists cars tested, hp, weight etc. They have the zo6 they tested at over 102k....Lord I hope not. ..rrm

I'm pumped, but hope they don't price it out of my range.

Just realized, this looks like a back wheel. We now know what the brake vents will look like.

When I read the article it says it's the front fender, but I'm not so sure...

That could be. When looking at the photos of the camo'd cars it was apparent that the front fenders did not fully cover the front tires but I thought that maybe the flared fenders were not ready in time for their testing, yet they did have flared fenders on the rear.

From that little bit we can see of the front fender in the photo, it doesn't appear that it has flaired fenders, just add ons. Probably part of "Gurney Lips" like was used on the C6 wide body, even though the C6 wide body had fully flaired front fenders to cover the front tires.

My take is Z06 gets the LT4 and that's it for a bit. Then, a few years into the C7, they come out with a super vette called the L88 with a twin-turbo.

Adressed to travisnd and jvp:

Agree that this is the end of the LS7. What I'm suggesting (and what I implied from Reuss's comments), is that the 7.0L architecture will continue to be used. He specifically alludes to that. It would of course benefit from DI and the other enhancements which transformed the LS3 into the LT1. Maybe they call it an LT6.

But I also see it going as you suggest - a couple years-worth of Z28 and that's it.

I suppose that I have a hard time imagining a blown powerplant as ideal for a track-purposed car.

My wife is going to kill me when I come home with that!!

I agree that it's an odd solution. And yes all the spy shots show a stockish width fender with a tire sticking way out, but a flared quarter panel. Odd that they wouldn't make a new fender with more flare... will be very interesting to see what they come up with and how it looks.

It's not... but they're not make a track-purposed car. They're making a top dog performance variant that can run on track very well.

A number of reports has the C7/Z06 at six figures for the base model.
GM will have to go to great length to reduce the curb weight, the base C7 is nearly 3500 lbs already. My current Z06 weight in at nearly 3100 lbs. My impression of the current C7 is that it's tire eating fuel drinking machine with lots of bells and whistles. I did a Spring Mountain level 3 class and the track was full of rubber marbles and before the day was over I always needed fuel. Also one had a motor go south, low oil pressure with a mean value train sound, never found out what exactly was wrong. It was on the next to last run of the last day there.

hklvette 12-04-2013 03:21 PM

LT4 = LS9 + DI + VVT? It would make sense. Spin it to 7k and call it a day.
