C7 v C6 427 Vert
 

Haven't seen this question come up lately. Who has some miles on both of these, and how do they compare? Did the C7 beat the 427 all to pieces, or is the 427 a keeper, especially at the heavy discounts they're selling for?

I am surprised this is not a more common subject. A 427 at current discounts is actually the same or cheaper than a C7 Vert, that would be a tough decision. I just love the 427 for some reason, I think it is the best looking C6 ever made.

I am looking forward to hearing some replies from folks that may have owned or driven both.

427 vert is a very cool vette. I'd be interested in hearing from those with both as well, but I doubt there are very many that fall into that bucket.

An even better comparo would be the 427 vert and the C7 vert.

Well.... I traded my 427 for my C7... While I agree the 427 is an unbelievable c6... The C7 trumps it in every category ... As a stand alone....the 427 is amazing when compared to other C6's...but when compared to the C7.... It REALLY is old school ... It is a really refined 8 year old car ! The. C7 is a game changer.... Just read the reviews of the test drives by the same driver... I was in denial until I drove them back to back... Once you do... You will never look back!

Has anyone else here owned both?

GM made 2,552 427 'verts in 2013 and there are bunch of them still around. Perhaps the market for Corvette convertibles is a bit saturated at the moment? (And here we are headed into the non-convertible half of the year.)

In fact, GM only made 621 convertibles for all of MY12, 780 for all of MY11, and only 1,003 for all of MY10. Nearly as many Vert's in all of MY10, 11, and 12 combined as they made 427 Convertibles in 2013. (And GM still made 720 MY13 non-427 Convertibles, too.) (I know a great deal on a still new MY11 GS convertible, 4LT, velocity yellow, mag ride, and manual transmission if anyone is interested, PM me.) I wonder what the short-term one, two, and three year residuals may be like given the large number of them produced.

I wonder if GM didn't make a few too many or if they didn't figure as many people holding off C6's waiting for C7's? Perhaps there is not a big market for manual transmission convertibles? One forum sponsor dealer in MI has like 17 1SC variants available. Great bargain when compared to a Z06 coupe, though. (Only made 471 of those for MY13.)

Personally, I've been eyeballing a 427 Vert since early Summer, and will hopefully be able to pull the trigger by the end of this month. As I was comparing to a Z06 coupe and learned about all that the 427 Vert has, you just cannot beat the value! As for collectibility, despite the larger numbers produced, I believe they will still prove to be good (if nonetheless just for the desirability of the Z06 drivetrain!)

427 Standard: hand-built LS7 with dry sump and manual transmission, Z06 calipers and brakes, Magnetic Ride Control, ZR1 sized wheels and tires with Michelin rubber, carbon fiber hood with 427 emblems, and ZR1 spoiler. :flag:

But you have to go with what you want. I love the C6 looks so the 427 Vert is an option for me, but the C7 and it's residual value would be hard to argue against, too.

Any 427 verts gone down the quarter on you tube? I wanted to get out but ran out of time this year.

427 Fastest vert of all time? I am sure the C7 vert will put up a challenge.

Would they be allowed to run at a track?

I really dislike the looks of any soft-top convertible when the top is up, so I would stick with the C7. It does look great with the top down however :cool:.

I think you have to be a bit nuts to buy a new C6 when the C7 is so much better. The engine is irrelevant. You are comparing a 9 year old platform that is dated to a new platform that is state of the art. I currently own a 2008 C6 vert but I'm going to gat a C7 vert in the next year. Love my C6 but the C7 is just better in every way

Not sure I've seen a vid. Might have problems passing inspection at lots of strips? I think I read a test where it did 11.8 at 122ish. Not too shabby.

I owned the 427 CVT and presently have the C7 Coupe.....Also have a C7 Convertible on order presently @ 3300 so I guess I can answer the Question.....
By far the 427 Convertible was the best all around Convertible I ever owned, but I think the only basis of Comparison anybody can make will only come when the C7 Vert hits the road...
The C7 Coupe is a completley different car and its unfair to make a comparison...there different generations and the market when it adjusts in about 6 months will leave both cars with there share of the market.....Right now the C6 is taking a big hit resale wise... Buyers can name there Price and there are some great deals out there....Harvey

Good point, most tracks require some type of rollover protection, even drag strips, some may not.

The 427 will stand as a collector car over time, at least the garage queens will. It will not probably draw big numbers at resale, but in that it will always be revered as a cool, special car at shows, cars and coffee's and cruises.

The 2014 C7, well, given it is a somewhat profound leap forward for the Corvette, it will always have that appeal as the first year. Right now, it is exciting, fresh, new, the latest and greatest, but there will be many, many more of this car to come. But given what it brings to the table, it may be the better choice as a driver's car.

If it were me, right now, and I were faced with this choice, I might just take advantage of the heavy discounts available on the 427 and go that direction right now. All the while knowing, that if I change my mind later, there will be a C7 readily available.

I love the appeal of the "Old School" style of the '427" vert. I prefer 6 speed, no digital gauges (HUD) is sufficient, love LS7 despite all the valve guide concerns. Definitely would not trade for the C7 base vert, however the Z07 Vert who be difficult to resist from a performance standpoint, but the C7 rear end would be enough for me to pass on what would be a clearly better performing vert.
