Hello everyone.....

I have some great news. My search has finally come to an end and I just purchased a 1971 corvette. It has been a long journey indeed. My first inquiry I made on a 1971 corvette (i checked) was over 14 1/2 years ago. Since then I have gone through dozens of these cars to be met with dissapointment after dissapointment. In the meantime I purchased various other corvette model years and been completely happy with them. My heart has always been in for a 1971. :yesnod:

I have been met with kindness, support, great assistance, and unfortunately some bouts of hatred and resistance. For every one of the bad apples there were 10 of those that stuck it out with me. And for that I am thankful. There have been many behind the scenes people that assisted me over the years. I appreciate this and hope our paths cross someday.

Okay, this year has been quite interesting indeed. There have been a LOT more of these cars for sale then I have seen in past years. I had one close call earlier this year but that sale did not work out. I figured it would be years before I would ever see one I would buy. However, was I wrong. Months later I found my new ride. And I do think it was worth the wait indeed. I know it is the right car because it is totally connecting with me. I have seen pictures/video, had the car inspected and I knew it was the one. I knew it before it was even inspected. I just felt it. When I listened to the report I was sold. She had to be mine. I was considering traveling up to see it first but said, nah....let's just make it a surprise. You did what you can do and if I go up I know I would tell them I would take it. So I decided to just ship it and be done! I will not have this car for a couple of weeks so I am gonna be a nervous wreck worrying if she will get here okay. I hired a recommended shipper that many forum members have used and it will be shipped in an enclosed trailer. The suspense will kill me though. :crazy:

With that said I now present you my new ride. It speaks for itself. and yes it came from the factory as Mille Miglia red and numbers matching car. :thumbs:

I thank you all for your help and I also do not harbor any ill feelings to my detractors except to maybe think about having a little faith in patience in those who are dedicated and want to find the perfect car for them. It took me years but I found it, finally. Some folks just need more time than others. Best regards! :thumbs:

Just FYI - the car was delivered with vinyl interior and loop carpeting. The leather seats and woodgrain door panels/center console were added later.

The rear spring has been replaced with a mono-spring and looks like the rear sway bar has been removed altogether.

I visited a corvette shop that another forum member highly recommended.I introduced myself and had a great talk. Car will be delivered there to freshen her up and make sure all is well! :thumbs:

I am planning on attending the NCRS event in Kissimmee. I would like to perhaps drive her up there. It would be my first event and the car already has a NCRS sticker so I am already on my way. :D It would be just to drive and enjoy and see others and show the ride. Offer test drives to any of my "Gold Ticket" holders I know. I want to see what the NCRS is all about. I have had some tell me I should jump right in and sign up to be an Observer Judge and others have said to just go and sit back and watch the meet. I am the type of person that likes to jump right in so I am really considering the Observer Judging option.

My very first show would be a local show but very close but the NCRS meet would really be the first major one. I will have plenty of time to make sure she is ready for the trip. She is being delivered to a local corvette shop who will be going over it very carefully and ready it for great quality driving.

It was hard to find a shipper to go up to pick up the car. I won't do that shipping wars crap. I contacted Jim at Intercity Lines and they aren't available. I got other leads and ended up signing up with Passport Transport. They said they will have carriers in the area in 10 days. It will be at least 3 weeks I imagine before I even see her in person for the first time.

It is driving me crazy to wait and it did cross my mind to go up, rent a trailer, and bring my baby myself. But I got nightmares like this so I left it to the experts. It would be my luck to get my trailer stuck on the train tracks and here some guy in the background saying "Holy Smokes" I'll wait the three weeks!!!!!

About 12-15 years ago there was a set of "Corvette hubcaps" advertised in the local bargain corner ads for $80. I got directions and headed out. From the conversation I gathered that they were rally wheel caps, which is what I was looking for. I got there and he carried out 4 PO2 wheel covers hung on a wire. Said the car was bought new and driven home and they were taken off and hung in the garage. I was so disappointed they weren't rally caps that I just left. :banghead:

HAHAHA! DON'T worry if I sign up I will just be watching. No chance of me unscrewing a radiator cap off to check the coolant after the car was running for several minutes. :rofl:

Gosh-that sounded like a great deal. 80 bucks for 4 caps! WOW. I know I won't score anything like that but I am looking for a nice deal with nice caps! :thumbs:

White Rear View Mirror

I just checked my emails and I did send one to you on Oct 21st introducing you to the car. It had the reasons why I did not pick up the Kissimmee car and then told you I found little red riding hood. I forwarded you that email again. Perhaps it went to your spam folder or is lost in cyberspace. I would never keep you out of the loop.

I plan on registering NCRS annual meet. In fact I tried to register yesterday and want to get the ride in the Sportsman showing category. But I need to be a member of the local chapter. Seems silly to join and pay dues that only last 7 weeks. I emailed the chapter president to see if they prorate dues. I also need to get insurance on the car which I am working on now as when you register that is a requirement.

Is the Old Town meet a separate show than the NCRS annual meet? It's the same weekend? I am confused as it sounds like it may be two different shows in the same city?

I would totally have you on my list to see the car and of course you also have been awarded one of my "Golden Tickets" to drive this beast. I need people to show me the ropes. It is my first C3. A lot different then the modern day corvettes I have driven.

Yes and no. The NCRS Winter Regional is held at Old Town. Set up for vendors is Wednesday, the swap meet opens Thursday and NCRS judging is Friday and Saturday. The NCRS moves out Saturday, and a local Corvette club comes in on Sunday, to put on their own Corvette show. Most of the vendors pull out Saturday night, but a couple will stick around for Sunday.

Besides the NCRS show, Old Town hosts a car cruise both Friday and Saturday nights. On Friday, it's all late model cars and imports, while Saturday is muscle cars, antiques, hot rods, etc.

Sportsman awards aren't won. There's no judging in Sportsman, it's basically a display class. From the way I understand it, you get a plaque and a tag signifying that you were entered, and a parking spot on the show field. In the future, each time you enter Sportsman, you get another tag to add to your plaque.

You shouldn't have to join the local Chapter, to enter Sportsman. You only need to belong to the national NCRS, to participate in any of the NCRS events at old town. The show is free to the public, and NCRS membership is not required to see the show or visit the swap meet.

The Chapter puts a membership application on the registration form, in hopes of signing up new members, but it's not required. The same application is on the vendor registration, and though I've been coming to the Winter Regional for many years, I've never been a member of the Florida Chapter. :thumbs:

Old Town is more like a cruise in and parade. I like to go on Sat eve around 5pm there is about 200+ cars that show up inthe Summer (I heard more show up in the winter). People come around and check your car out and when it starts to get dark they get everybody lined up and cruise through the little town and people line the streets and cheer and hi-5. Plus you could win a 1,000$ just for showing up. Doesn't cost anything either, you could also win gift certifcates for local stores too. Plus all of the other cool cars to look at.

This correct. No requirement to be a member of a Chapter, only National. You do need to sign up for the meet if you want to enter or participate in any judging or seminars.

I did a quick check after seeing your post.

To enter a car in Sportsman at any NCRS show, you have to belong to an NCRS Chapter. You don't need to belong to the Florida Chapter, any NCRS Chapter will do. The Sportsman display is the only time that Chapter membership is required. I'd forgotten about this requirement for Sportsman, since I've never displayed a car in the Sportsman category.

The Sportsman class was developed to get more people involved in the NCRS, who weren't interested in Flight judging, or who may have already done that and didn't plan to go through it again. It's designed to bring more cars out to events, and get people active in Chapters and events.

See what the Chapter has to say about their dues. Many clubs carry your dues, through the end of the coming year, when you join at the end of the proceeding year.

You're right I overlooked the 'Sportsman' angle and was thinking of OJing only.

It's a good thing to belong to your local chapter anyway - can't hurt having all sorts of local references and contacts.

with that said i did send an email to the president over the weekend and have not heard back yet. it only has been a couple of days. there are no phone numbers to call.

also, when you join you send membership request by snail mail. looks like they do this the old fashioned way.

I do want to join but i want my questions answered. i don't just want to send money to an organziation if i don't get answered.

I found this by typing "NCRS Florida Dues" in the Google machine. I'm not sure how accurate this is, but I'd stick to your guns on a prorated fee or just wait till next year. You don't want to get ripped off.

"Florida Chapter NCRS Dues: $10 per year and run from January through December. You must be a member of National before you join the Florida Chapter."

At my local NCRS chapter I'm paying the outrageous sum of $35 a year.:crazy:

I know 10 bucks isn't much money but it would actually cost $20 bucks to join up if i have to pay twice. Still isn't a hunk of change but if I find the policy is not to prorate I think that is silly.

Then again I don't want to miss out on the event. I could register in January but since it is snail mail I may not get on the roster for a couple of weeks and may miss out on Sportsman if they run out of spaces. I really want to take the car to the event and park it there.

I sent a email to another member to see if i get a response. I like to know if this organization responds to inquiries. Will let me know how organized they are. I would imagine if they do not reply, I may not even get my application processed in time anyway if i were to send today.

I just find it peculiar in these modern times that an organization has a nice website but doesn't have any way to contact them by any other means but snail mail.

I hope someone checks the mailbox regularly as I hope to get registered in Sportsman.

I just got the title for the car delivered to me along with the other paperwork. Still a ways out for having the car delivered to me. Very strange to have title of the car but no car in the garage yet. :crazy:

It appears the former owner IS a member of the NCRS. I am trying to make contact with him to let him know his car is going to a good home. Hoping I can get some more information and history on the car.

If you're agonizing over the $10, post date the cheque to Jan 1 2014. Tell the NCRS website that you are a chapter member (which will be true by the date of the event) and you're all set for Sportsman.

No, I have no issue over the $10 although it is a little clunky the way they set their membership dates.

What I am agonizing is the fact there is NO contact phone numbers on the website if you wish to talk to someone if you have questions not just about membership but about the chapter in general. There are a bunch of emails and no responses to my inquiries. I already sent the check and dated it on the date I sent it.

So I wonder who is even running the place?

Maybe I should have joined the Ontario Charter. My guess is I would be a member the same day. Canadians get it right.

On the site it populates in the entry lines if you are a chapter member. It appears the chapter has to submit the names of their members to NCRS and have it on record when you register.

I was doing so well until the part where I was looking to register for observer judging. It is not there. :smash:

I have made contact with the last owner. It was great to hear his comments about the car. He said I have bought a great corvette and that it ran and handled great while he had it. He told me he plans on being at the vette show in Old Town in January so we are going to try to meet up. :thumbs:

It is killing me I don't even have this car in my garage yet. Still awaiting shipment!
