Took my Stingray to a local car show today

I took my Stingray to a local car show today and had way too much fun with it! I arrived at 8:30 a.m., did a quick detail check, then barely had time to eat lunch at 1:30 p.m. and do a quick look around at other cars because I was fielding questions from people about it all day long! :yesnod: Everyone loved it with the exception of one gentleman that owns a C6 and he described himself as being "on the fence" about it. This car BREEDS fun everywhere I go with it!

Here are a few photos from the show. (I entered it in the Corvette class but didn't place. Judging was conducted by one judge per class, and based on the Corvettes that the Corvette judge chose, he was really into modified Vettes. I should have entered mine in the "Original Class.")

Maybe it's just me, but the second place 'vette looks like a darn clown car.

your 'vette looks great next to the other, irrespective of the competition.

BlueOx 10-20-2013 12:19 AM

Did they jump on your case about the drippy paint?

 Thanks! It was honestly the most fun I've ever had at a car show!

There were a couple of conversations about it with a couple of other Corvette owners (including the first place winner), but I don't think the judge even noticed.

runutzzzzz 10-20-2013 12:25 AM

Who decided the winners?

The 1st place car looks like the front lip in the rim is actually wider than the rear! I know it prob. isn't but its darn close and looks horrible IMHO.

I love your yellow c7!

Paulchristian 10-20-2013 12:30 AM

Black vette won third? Judge was paid off and contest was rigged. :)

Thanks! I don't know who the judge was, but I know there was only one judge per class. No biggie though. :)

BlueOx 10-20-2013 12:39 AM

Don't take it personal. That C5 clown car is a joke.

Yeah, I didn't...I've been to too many shows to know that single judge judging is very subjective.

So one might ask why I posted the winners in my original post. Fair question with a logical response. I figured someone would ask if I won, then I would say that I didn't place, which would lead to someone asking what cars won, which would lead to me posting photos of the winners, which would lead to the conversation we have just had. I circumvented the unneeded steps.

I can certainly understand a customized Vette winning over a stock Vette but that goofy lookin Vette that won 2nd is a joke.

My Vette was modded too...I put LED bulbs in the license plate light sockets last night!

The black Z is bada$$ looking also. Then again, I really like the clown flames, just not on that car - the painter definitely has some skills.

Is the 1st place vette " Project Z51 Extreme" that had the long running thread on the forum?

I've done some cruise nites and shows with my yellow C7 just for fun too. It's always surrounded by a crowd and the questions never end. Even at a Ferrari / Aston dealer concourse this car drew the biggest crowd. Crazy.

But I'd never expect to win an award. Awards should go to cars whose owners invested time and effort into their creation. We just went out and bought these fantastic new Stingrays as is. They attract crowds because most people haven't seen one yet. It's fun for now though, next year these cars will be ho hum

ALMS21 10-20-2013 10:30 AM

I am not normally a big fan of yellow but it looks absolutely fantastic on the C7. Congrats OP on the purchase. The car is beautiful.

Mike Campbell 10-20-2013 11:36 AM

:iagree: Your car looks great. Enjoy your C7 and remember at car shows most of the time the "tackier car" wins. I wonder sometimes if that's because the judges figure this guy has spent a fortune on screwing up a nice car OR they give the guy a trophy so he doesn't come back. :crazy2: Plus have you ever noticed that with older Corvettes you lose points for adding crap but the new ones you gain points. I just cannot wait to see how folks will screw up the C7's.:ack:

Your car looks great! And seeing the car next to the C4 and C6s...it fits right in the Corvette family. I totally see the resemblance and at the same time the uniqueness that is the C7.

I still prefer the low wide stance of the , GS, Z06, & ZR-1.

Went to a car show a few years ago with my brand new C6. One of the 1st C6's anywhere. Car was very clean and I had people around the car all day... but was told because my car was "new" I wouldn't win anything. They were right! What really was annoying is that one of the cars in my class that trophied, had visible dirt on his rims. It was a total bag job and a big waste of time.

It really is frustrating when dirty cars win when you have spent hours making sure everything is detailed on your car to the max. :crazy2:

1) The OP's C7 is definitely the best looking car of all those shown in the pictures.

2) Yeah that does look the C6 Z51 project car from Corvette forum

3) Agreed that C5 looks clownish. And I'm not sure if thats a good or bad way.. but it definitely looks like something out of a circus act.

FWIW.. I dont think brand new, 100% stock, cars should win a car show either. Dont get me wrong.. the C7 clearly looks better than any of the other cars there. But I can imagine judges want to reward creativity and hard work. If I can drive to dealership and buy a car, then immediately drive it to "contest" and win a prize for best car. It seems like a false award. Really didnt have to do anything but fire up the NAV system for directions on how to get to the show.

That said, congrats on the new C7. And im sure getting all the attention from the attendees.. and those excited to see a C7 for the first time.. will be much more rememberable than a wood plaque given to you by a single judge.

briankeery 10-20-2013 02:31 PM

Gotta lot of nerve even putting a brand new car in a show. Not really surprised though, been seeing old coots in C6's getting all bent out of shape for best in show trophies for the last few years. Sad.

Thanks! And that's how I see it too. But I will say that I spent no less than 5 hours detailing my C7 for the show for two reasons. The stuff the dealership had put all over my interior looked terrible so I had to clean and retreat the interior and I had driven the car 1800 miles, 1400 of it being from the east coast to Oklahoma, so the exterior needed a full detail and rejex job. But I agree with your thoughts on the show!

Why does it take a lot of nerve to put a brand new car in a show when there's a 19XX to Present class? But peopel getting all bent out of shape is silly...judging is subjective. If all you want to do is collect trophies, get online and order a bunch of different ones.
