93 computer
hi i was wondering if any one had idle issues the shop said i need a new computer anyone know were i could buy one?

You can get yours rebuilt. It would be hard to find another one....I believe that 92-93 are unique. I had a couple of different issues in my 92, including a higher than normal idle. Sometimes when restarting the warm engine, the idle would sit at 1500RPM for 30-60 seconds before dropping. If that is happening to you, try this: While it's at that high idle, tap the top of the ECM with something (eg a screwdriver handle). If the idle drops down right away, it's almost certain that you have an issue in your ECM. I had mine rebuilt, and no issues since.

What idle issues are you having that made them conclude it's the ECM?

Only used in 92/93 Vettes and '93 F-Bodies Of all the C4 ECM's used ,it appears on here as the one most frequently with problems, many of which are intermittent or not able to be clearly identified. The last NOS ECM from GM was sold years ago and some have had patchy results with the re-builds |
Be careful here. These computers in general do not fail.
Often the dealer will point to the computer becuase it will show the DTC's, but I have yet to find out in trouble shooting that the computer itself is at fault. Spend some time to really troubleshoot the problem before assuming it's the ECM... If you are unlucky and it is, they are truly hard to find...I had two of them and sold them last year within seconds of putting them up... |
Good advice here...Although the computers in the '92 and '93 Vette's do, in fact, fail regularly.
If you need a computer, send yours to be rebuilt. I just did a repair with a rebuilt computer on a '92 Vert and the computer worked flawlessly. Has the dealer (or you) pulled the codes on your unit? K&B Specialty Products: http://kandbcorvetteproducts.com/site/ I think the rebuild was $275.00 and a one week turn. They did an awesome job and the car runs perfect. Good luck, Rossi
