can someone provide instructions how to adjust the fornt fenders on 1976 corvette. After body mounts installed, everything seems mis aligned.
The hood is raised and little gap at bottom of drivers side door.

you may have a weak frame.

did you replace the body mount that holds the nose to the frame, the kit I bought didn't come with new mounts for the nose so I had to buy one seperately.

How were your gaps before you replaced the mounts? Did you use the factory shim stacks from the old mounts on the new?

It looks like the nose is drooped. If you adjust the door to correct that gap you may mess up the one between the door and the quarter.

What does the rear of the door look like?

arkus 10-04-2013 09:47 AM

just a thought :::::::

you might have to realign all of the front panels .

once you start with one , it could upset all of the other ones .

I would work from the 1/4 forward meaning align the back of the door to the rear 1/4 and then work forward to the fender/door gap.

You may need to fit the best you can overall. They were not perfect and if you compared many they will all have some variance. I nearly lost my mind over this but I got it to the point I am satisfied. :)

When the door is open can you move it up and down by lifting on the end. I am thinking perhaps the hing bushing is worn.

mine was like that when I took it in for a new paint job, the painter re-aligned the front mounting on the radiator shroud to bring the front upward and close the gap, now, the older cars never did really have much quality control on gap-age, at the factory, so don't expect miracles like the newer ones. You can fill in the wider gaps with fiberglass if you want them perfect, I did not.

I have a similar problem......it is a must to replace worn door hinge pins and bushings. And check the frame for damage/rusty-weak spots.

Then do what the guys said about adjusting the gap between the rear of the door and the body....and then adjust the fender(front and rear of it)...then the hood if necessary.

I am learning as I go with a lot of help from the members.

Thanks for the replies. I actually replaced all door hinge bushings. prior to having mounts done, this wasnt an issue.

Only replaced the 4 body mounts, didnt know there are mounts for the nose.

rgpta 10-06-2013 02:17 PM

I had the Corvette Center In Newington CT replace the mounts. so I hope they used the requried shims.

rgpta 10-06-2013 02:18 PM

Rear door is fine, same gap and height as reare quarter.

When you say you replaced 4 body mounts. Is that 2 on one side and 2 on the other or 4 on one side and 4 on the other?

rgpta 10-06-2013 06:39 PM

all 8 body mounts

havesometo 10-06-2013 07:06 PM

There's only 8 body mounts. Sorry I'm not going to be able to help you. I'm in the exact same boat you are with my driver side. But I'll keep following this to see if someone can help you and me.
