What was your first car???
My first car was a 1977 Firebird Formula. I worked at my cousins bar on the weekends so my dad would buy me things and I would pay him back.. I traded the Formula in for a 1979 Trans Am. I ran the hell out of that and then I found another 1979 Trans Am with only 42,000 miles on it that was a 4 speed. I drove that for a year or so and traded it for a 1983 Z28 with only 37,000 miles on it. I then traded it for a 1993 Trans Am brand new. Well anyhow I could go on and on but I just wanted to see what kind of car was your first...

A beautiful Midnight Blue 1941 Plymouth that had been nosed and decked, with white & red pinstripes and rolled and pleated powder blue interior. The dashboard had been chromed and it was a beautiful car planning to become a future streetrod. However, I pushed that POS further than I drove it since the block cracked and I never had the money to put a new engine in it. :( Burnt more oil than a freighter.

My first was a 1968 Plymouth Satellite bought in 1973.
In 1975, I purchased my first "new" car, a 1975 Firebird Formula, kept for 2 years and ordered a 1977 Trans Am. From that point on, it was the TA in the garage while I used other cars or vans for the baby seats etc. After storing the T/A for the better part of 8 years, I sold it to a friend. Regretted that move for years, but when I was looking again at getting a muscle car of old, I fell in lust with the C6, so I quickly forgot about the old muscle car days, and decided on new technology, and a better handling and better riding option than the old bone crushers of old. |
A 1953 Mercury with a flathead V8 and Mercomatic trans( which I quickly removed and installed a 389 Pontiac with tri-power and 3 speed stick) What can I say I was a crazy kid!!!!!

I seem to have stumbled onto a "rich man's" forum.
My first car was a 1941 Chevrolet, 4 door (in 1958). And to get it I had to build up the engine myself. With my Dad's supervision. 216 cubic inches or raw power with vacuum shift, split manifold, 2 glass packs and plenty of "flex-pipe" and bailing wire. Most of you guys don't know the thrill of building and repairing you cars from wrecking yard parts. If the wrecking yard owner didn't know you by your first name, you were no one! Oh; I almost forgot. And a "reverb" unit on the radio. How many of you remember those? I thought so. |
My first car was a 1960 MGA 1600 - baby blue w/wire wheels.
Enjoy, akriggm |
1969 Chevelle SS. totaled it 3 weeks after I got my Drivers license. Next car was a Mustang 2 (it did have a v6 though). was the car I learned to drive a standard.
|
My first car was a '58 Chevy Belair 348 ci 2 door hardtop I purchased in early 1963. Here's a picture of it with my buddy's '56 Olds.

The year was 1976 and I was 16. I bought a 1969 Camaro SS for 1600.00. It was a 4-speed and I didn't even know how to drive a clutch. I had to learn on the drive home.

I may have the oldest (haven't read all the replies).
Had a 1954 Chevrolet 210 in-line 6 with a 2-speed Power Glide transmission. I inherited it from my older sister. It was one that when I stopped at a service station, I told them to check the gas and fill it with oil. It was brown on top, tan on the bottom. |

First car was a 55 Chevy 2 door wagon that I worked over before turning 16. Painted it white over red, but the red faded within a couple of years. Kept it for years until selling it mid-college. Bought a 65 Marlin fastback that had been drag raced for $1100 when I was 18 from a airman stationed in Germany who needed to unload the 3 year old car. Traded that for a new SS396 Chevelle in 1968 while in college. Those were the days.....
Back in the 60's we would caravan to high school track and cross country meets. We would load eight guys into this thing with the rear window swung up and motor to the meets. http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/...hevywagon3.jpg |

My first car I "owned" was a 1970 Chevy Belair my dad paid $500 for. It sat in the driveway until I had paid him back the $500 so I could drive it. It took me about a month to pay him back but then that car spent many a day getting me and my friends to the beach. That was in '78 and I had just graduated from high school.
Before that I drove my dads 1970 Chevy pickup with a 3 spd on the column shifter. Meg |
1969 Pontiac LeMans. Polished it with Turtle Wax Paste every weekend!!

1971 Camaro, love my Vette but wish I still had it now. I'm amazed by guys that still have their first car. My previous car is usually used for a down payment on my next car.

Red 57 Bel Air Chevy in 1962 just like this one, but with different wheels.
Didn't get my first Vette until 1967. |
1970 Mustang Mach1 351c 4V 4 speed

In 1976, as a 16 year old high school junior, I bought a 1970 MGB for $500 (British Racing Green, wire wheels with tubes, 3 little windshield wipers, 2 small 6 volt batteries behind the seats.) I loved that car - felt like James Bond driving it.
When the MG bottom rusted completely out in 1979 my Dad helped me buy my first new car, a brand new 1979 Pontiac Sunbird (white, 4-speed manual, AM radio, wind-up windows, red vinyl seats) for $4400. I think the MGB was the better car . . . and that's not saying much. I really like this thread. Thanks. |
A red 1977, Toyota Celica GT. Brand new off the lot. Immediately put Koni's and lowering springs on it. Ripped out the back seat too. Thought it would make it lighter. It was a nice little car though.
|
My parents bought me a 1952 four door Studebaker with a 232 CI V8 and three on the tree for $150. Called it the "Grey Ghost." Wasn't much but it beat walking. First car I actually bought was a 1958 250HP Fuelie Corvette 4 speed with power windows and both tops. Sure wish I had that one back. It would be worth a ton of money today. That was in 1965. How time flys by!
|
1971 Ford F100 pickup no power anything, 3 on the tree.
|
A 1962 Sunbeam Alpine !!! Took out the original 1500cc and replaced it with a later 1725cc sunbeam motor. Were talking upgrading from a 79 horse motor to a 90 horse fire breathing monster!! :woohoo: Bare in mind when your 16 years old, in 1976, This was a big deal  and the start of my obsession of the need for speed !!
|
My first car
A 1947 Merc. with a 1953 Olds J2 super 88 engine 4bbl, dual exhaust. It had a white Carson top and the body was so black you could see for miles in the reflection. With 800X15 tires on the back and 710X15s on the front, it had a slight rake. Wide white walls of course. Damn, loved that car..It was in 1955, I was 19 years old..
|
A smurf blue (and I mean that in a very literal sense - body, wheels and top) Geo Tracker. Was a graduation present. Man alive that thing was a great little cruisin machine back in the day :) Friends of course had to call me Smurfette in the Smurfmobile.

A dark blue 1968 VW Bug....

Mine was a '50 dodge for which I paid $100. 3 speed manual with fluid drive. It got 50 miles per quart on oil and smoked a lot. The body actually looked pretty good.
|
1978 Chevy Camaro, T-Top, small block 325, White w/ Red interior. Bought 8 years old and put over 200K on the odometer. good times with it and owned it for 7 or 8 years.

1989 Plymouth Sundance. I had to pay my dad back. Loved that car. Traded up to a 1995 Z28 A4, got hit at an intersection by a red light runner who totaled me and sued me (), to a full size conversion van complete with fold out bed, Nintendo, captains chairs, track lighting, cb radio, etc. while I was waiting on the lawsuit outcome, to my 1998 Z28 M6, inherited my sister's 1996 Neon when dad bought her a new car just because. Auctioned the neon, ended up in a 1999 Grand Caravan while I garaged the Z28, into my Acura TL, sold the Z28, waited, got bored and bought the Corvette.
|
A brand new blue '74 Camaro Type LT....the first of 4 F-body cars I owned between that first one and the Vette I bought in 2004.
That 74 Camaro A red 76 Firebird TransAm A black 83 Camaro Z28 A red 91 Firebird Formula Loved every one of 'em. |
1969 SS Camaro...back when you could pick them up for $2000.00.
|
a 1984 Firebird and I beat the hell out if it. After a couple I years I had a brand new 1987 Camaro RS ( my dad did not want me having a V8) but blew the engine 6 months in and luckily a Chevy shop (not a dealer) got an 88 Corvette totaled from behind, that drivetrain went in my car. I used to love it when the Iroc-Z's and mustangs would pull up next to me and talk sh!t about me only having a v6 then getting their doors blown off.

Keep them coming guys. I'm loving this. As you can see I have had many cars in my 42 years. I now own a used car lot and get to drive all kind of cars. I will say that I like my 2013 Z06 the best so far..

A used 1965 white Mustang notchback. 289 automatic, 2 bbl. It was a beautiful looking car but zeroed out my high school bank account due to excessive breakdowns and repairs. I finally sold it to a mechanic who towed it away and then bought a 67 Camaro SS convertible. 350/295 4 speed manual with factory hurst shifter! It was a 1967 Indy 500 pacecar spinoff...white with blue interior and exterior striping. Loved that Camaro.
|
'64 Pontiac Catalina, light blue.
Beater. (My sister did damage on the side and the front.) Add-on A/C, bench seat, great fly windows and a 383 2 barrel. HUGE car. Learned to turn a wrench on that car....couldn't afford to get it fixed to pass inspection, so I went to Sears and bought a tool set. Car long gone, but still use the tools! |
In 1967 bought 1966 new GTO, and then sold it in 1969 for the Judge. Wish I had them today.
