OFFICIAL (yes, official) - Shipping Starts Today!

General Motors Co. said Wednesday that it has started shipping its seventh-generation 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray coupe to dealers across the country.

The Detroit-based automaker said about 1,000 new Corvettes have been built at its Bowling Green Assembly Plant in Kentucky and should be delivered to dealers within the next few weeks.

“It’s an amazing sight to see the transporters filled with Stingrays heading to customers in all corners of the country,” Dave Tatman, plant manager of GM’s Bowling Green Assembly Plant said in a statement. “The pride at Bowling Green is overwhelming and it shows in the tremendous quality and attention to detail going into each one of these new Corvettes.”

The 2014 Corvette Stingray coupe begins at $51,995 and a convertible, starting at $56,995, will begin production at Bowling Green assembly by year’s end, GM said.

Fair Number

1000 is a decent number of cars. The tip of the iceberg, but some lucky owners will be driving within a week. And getting what's that wherever they go.

Thanks Dave.

runutzzzzz 09-18-2013 12:25 PM

Yay! That means that they already left the plant so hopefully some luck people get their cars today!

Dave in your opinion what is the earliest a customer will get their car? Perhaps Saturday or Sunday (I know NJ dealers are closed, but some states have dealers open on Sunday)...

YellowC5 09-18-2013 12:30 PM

NOW its really OFFICAL!

Thanks Dave for the good news.

Harry2 09-18-2013 12:31 PM

Great news for all of the first wave buyers!
I have a vert on order that will arrive months from now but my dealer will call me when his first customer coupe arrives so that I can finally see one in person. I imagine it will not be available for too long before the proud owner takes it home.

Glen e 09-18-2013 12:34 PM

Wow...just like Dave said originally, imagine that......

I would think you will start seeing cars hit some dealers by the weekend.

I've got enough built so far to fill 2 full truckloads but not all have been released yet. If they have a full load for me with no other stops it takes 14 hours. That means if a truck left today I could have cars tomorrow, but I wouldn't count on that.

GM is on schedule. They said in February, when I put my deposit down, that the C7 will be at dealers by the end of 3rd QTR.

I would think some dealers should have cars dropped by at least Friday this week.

Interesting. I always thought the holes in the frame rails were used to strap them down for transport. That's how I always strap my car to the trailer using some J-hooks. I guess those holes are only used for moving the frame/chassis at the factory?

DoTheyMakeOtherCars? 09-18-2013 02:59 PM

Anxiously awaiting my call from the museum. I'm delivery number 42 so I would think I will be Monday 10/7 at the latest. I wish they would start musuem deliveries next week too. The waiting continues. Congratulations to all that are getting their cars.

Philr56 09-18-2013 03:31 PM

Dave, are the cars shipping today part of the first consensus? I'm asking because my friend in Florida is waiting for word on when hers will be built. She's not sure which consensus she is in.

A few more pics from Autoweek. If these have been posted elsewhere, my apologies. No snide comments required.

It's tough to say, I have cars built from both the first and second but I don't yet have a list of what actually shipped.

Looking at the photos, I don't think that the black wheels are going over so great. Maybe there are not that many kids in high school that are buying C7's after all.

harrydunn 09-18-2013 03:48 PM

Ouch.

450hp mike9 09-18-2013 04:00 PM

Is that 11 on a truck . I hope the trucking firm has over 90 trucks and gets them all the first run. On the wheel issue I wish Chevy had the dark grey wheels they had on the 2011 GS. I didn't go black on a torch red car either.

I think the machined base wheel is the hands down loser....still have not seen one, and $1500.....

I think you are going to be surprised. We have more orders for painted wheels than ever before and it's not just young guys. Of course, since I prefer the painted wheel I may influence a few people...

Dave

travisnd 09-18-2013 04:07 PM

When you say "painted wheels" do you mean the standard silver painted ones, or do you mean black?

Nah. Thats just the trailer headed to AARP in that picture.

Actually that wrong. It would be the trailer full of C7's which chrome wheels thats headed to the AARP meeting.

Are you guys talking the Z51 wheel either black or silver ? Cause you can't get the standard wheel in black right?

Black wheels. Early on we were running about 25%!

Dave

Baron7700 09-18-2013 04:16 PM

I ordered black car, red interior, with.....

black wheels and yellow calipers (z51).

While not in high school, I may be one of the closest to it . DOB 1986.

george vee 09-18-2013 04:22 PM

The reason we old guys don't like the black wheels, they look like cars without hub caps when they are on the move. I do like them when they are clean and standing still.
I ordered my Torch Red Z51 with chrome wheels and I may be buying a complete set of Z51 black wheels with tires from a guy here on CF.

Good point, I really only think about how the car looks standing still.

I saw where your cars are running around 25% black, but the photos shown of the transporters sure don't show that many in black, even though most of the cars(on transporters) shown in the photos are Z51's.

Also looks as if your early sales have a lot of manual transmissions, much more that what is represented over the past 17 years(C5 & C6).

I may paint my wheels that color cause it is stunning. On a red car that would be hot as hell.

Hmm, I'm thinking maybe I should drive down to the Michigan-Ohio border and wave the first truck in on I-75.

Ya I dunno. Im a bit a of a car nut. I run a local car club / charity. I track the cars a lot. This will be the new toy / track car.

But I guess im abnormal at my age because I love putting around in my 68 mustang with its 6cylinders and 3 speeds of fury.

A vette is a natural progression for me. I bought an 06 slk new back in the day, it was fun but meh. I bought an 09 cobalt ss new, and its been a blast as a track / toy car. This is just the next step up from that car. I like the bang for your buck aspect.
