New 383 eating distributor gear!!!!
SO 89 l98 383 with lpe 219 cam just pulled the dist and noticed some wear on one side of the dist gear. Checked runout on the shaft and found it to be .08 in (the runout is right at the wear point)
So whats a good affordable replacement or can i get away with just swapping out the shaft ( i have an old one floating around that i will check for straightness. O and im pretty sure the shaft was bent from a massive backfire from before the engine was rebuilt. (no really this **** backfired so hard i had to replace all my exhaust gaskets) |
Does the material the dist gear is made of match that required by the cam ?

I believe the Lingenfelter 219 requires a melonized gear to be used... You could always get a composite gear which will work with any cam material ,plus they never wear out....WW

Im getting a new Gm Melonized to go back in with the new distributor but it died due to a bent shaft. the runout is .08 or .1 in now if i put some tape over the toothed part and pull the runout there its smooth with almost no runout. Therefore the cam ate the bent part out. (why the gear was only half eaten) So I just need to know what a good replacement distributor.

Cam looks to be pressed on iron (blackish) and its a 74219 Accell.

In that case, you should be able to use an iron (stock) gear. The runout must be heating you distributor gear. Hopefully the cam is ok.

i got the 219 cam from LPE (CompCams do their grind) and i've been using the stock
dist gear with no problems at all over this years. I didn't want to change it. |
