The SL600 and SL65 AMG both are in the mid 3-second range when driven properly.

Everyone knows GM dropped the ball not introducing the C7 with an optional dual clutch tranny. This is a carry over slushbox with a few fancy tweaks, and is most assuredly going to be replaced with an all new unit in the very near future, as occurred with the C6. Limiting this thread to autos is goofy since a number of performance cars don't even offer an auto. Bang for the buck the C7 cannot touch a Shelby GT500 at 3.5 and 11.5, so quit crowing about how fast the C7 auto is and how the C7 is half the cost of a particular Audi.

Seriously??? The Corvette is a great car, but fastest production car??? Not going to happen. Ever.

The Stingray will destroy the GT500 on a road course, and every other way that matters in a sports car.

lol destroy? I highly dought that. Go look up laguna seca and see where it's at on that list. The only thing that will get destroyed if the vette tries to race it in a stright line dig, roll give the vette 2 cars it will get bitched slapped. The gt500 does very well at the track

I suggest you look at C&D Lightning lap, the GT 500 couldn't even beat the C6 GS. In fact, it couldn't even break the 3 minute barrier.

That's a great argument if you track your car, which most won't, but it might make you feel a bit better the next time one of those Shelby's owns you on the way to work. I'm a Vette guy, but doggin' the bang for buck appeal of a Shelby is just sour grapes on your part.

this thread cracks me up! honestly do you think that the buyer of a 6 figure car cares about 0-60? here how transaction goes.....they walk in a dealership see a car that catches their eye and BAM..they stroke a check,,done. You guys can argue to your blue in the face but that's the truth.

Yes but you have to pay twice the price of the C7
That's apples to grapes.

2013 Audi S8 BASE PRICE $110,895 PRICE AS TESTED $125,995

Nowadays when you say auto you have to define what you mean. :yesnod:

Not really. An "automatic" is a transmission that will shift itself. Torque converter, dual clutch, whatever.....if it will shift itself then by the very definition of the word, it's an automatic.
It's funny, the dual clutch transmission used in a Ford Fusion is called, by Ford, an "automatic". The dual clutch transmission used in a Ferrari is called a "manual". Same design, does the same thing.....marketing 101, kids.

It'll be a fast car for sure and yes I believe it will be the fastest or quickest production automatic transmission corvette ever.

Z51 for the slightly different rear axle ratio?

Usually the CTS v and Camaro zL1 automatics are a tenth of a second faster in acceleration....sometimes their trap speed in mph are 1 or 2 less in the quarter.

At the Chicago Show Harlan Charles told me the C7 will be the fastest automatic Corvette ever offered by GM.

Most people don't street race either, if your self worth depends on how fast a car is, your on the wrong forum.

perhaps this one?

Did you not read my last post? The question was not price sensitive. I simply offered an answer to the question that was asked.

Actually you are wrong. I'm not saying that everyone cares. But a very good friend of mine recently bought an S8, and he does care about 0-60 times. You might also want to go on to YouTube and do a search of all the guys (especially in Europe) who are drag racing an awful lot of $100K plus cars at airfields and such.

Indeed, high end automatic transmissions have become so sophisticated that they will now easily and consistently outperform the standard transmission variant.

It's now about at the point where the only reason to get a standard transmission is if you just enjoy rowing while you drive.

Congratulations on identifying EXACTLY what he was doing. Generalizing.....and accurately.

It won't be true for EVERYONE, but his generalization is accurate.

I promise my mom doesn't know what the hell her SL550 does 0-60, lol.

I don't know a single person, personally, who spent over 100k who cared how fast the car was. They wanted the car they wanted and went and bought it. They either knew it was sporty, knew it was luxury or just liked the car....it didn't have to be the best at any of them.
