RUN, don't walk, and don't argue too much about the price, just buy the damn thing! :toetap:

When the guy asks around the next day he's gonna be pissed anyway....

Gobot 07-29-2013 08:35 PM

Thanks for the advice everybody. A friend of mine and I are going to go into it together and put about 5k in it afterwards. With us doing all the labor ourselves we should end up with a pretty nice little 64. Keep it for a little while (let the mom drive it to work a couple times) then sell it. Thanks again!

I hope this isn't a trolling thread...

Wow, I thought my $20k deal 6 years ago was a good one.

Nope. If I end up purchasing the car this weekend I'll post some pics immediately.

stafftech 07-29-2013 09:20 PM

:crazy2:I would meet the owner 1st thing in the morning before its gone or before he does a little research on his own

69z28&ss396 07-29-2013 09:25 PM

Why would you wait? I would have bought it before I said anything here and posted pics with bought price.. hmmm glwb..

Gobot 07-29-2013 10:29 PM

The car is 2.5 hours away. I have a few pics I could post but I'd rather not. Have to wait for the weekend for a possible purchase.

SonnyAK 07-29-2013 10:45 PM

I think taking the day off from work and heading on over tomorrow would be a good idea...

Gobot 07-29-2013 10:48 PM

Well I would but I was just told about the car today and I wasn't lead to believe he's actively trying to sell the car so I think I can wait for the weekend. If it's gone it's gone and I learned my lesson . Hopefully that's not the case.

I'm not sure how many miles are on the car and the owner did say it probably needed a new paint job and a new interior. He claims it runs and I would probably be able to drive the car home. He's asking 12k for the car but I'm guessing he's got some wiggle room in there and I could probably get it for 10.5 or so. After some enjoyment out of the car I'll probably flip it. Should I go for it?

Heck NO!!!! Give me his number. I would not want you to trouble yourself.

Good luck and I hope it works out well. Just remember, people are really funny once they get it in their mind to sell a car they've had for a long time - especially one priced as seemingly aggressive as this one...He's going to let it go to the first one with a little cash deposit in hand...

I hope we get to see some great photos soon!!

You guys are terrible. Tell Gobot the truth. He’ll have 40K in it by the time he’s almost happy with it. And it still won’t be a frame-off restoration. This is one of those cars that will very quickly suck you under. He stated up front that it needed paint and interior. If it needs that, you know it needs a top also. You know that those three items will be more than what he’s giving for the car. Something that should be considered is whether or not it is an un-hit body. If it isn’t, I would walk away. He’s already said that he’s interested in a quick flip. This is ’64. His best profit will come from getting it to move down the road safely and pass state inspection. After that everything will have a diminishing return.

Gobot 07-30-2013 09:32 AM

Well after receiving a few pictures of the car I still think it's worth it. The car is currently being driven so i have to assume it passed it's last inspection because I could see it didn't have historic plates. I have no intention of doing a complete restoration and it will by no means be a show piece. Just something decent to look at that will be fun to drive on the weekend for someone. The hard top seems to be the best part about the car so I don't have to worry about that.

Against my better judgment I decided to post a couple pics to see if you guys still felt the same about the car. Let me know. Thanks.

Geralds57 07-30-2013 11:14 AM

I would still go for it for that price. 65 big block hood looks better anyway. if you don't want to keep it I would clean it up and then flip it. I would price it in the mid 20's

Hard to tell but in the second pic that pillar doesn't look too good. If I were you I'd be checking real good for rust in the bird cage and frame.
