Front end - sexy or big mouth bass?

So , I am more and more excited over the stats and performance of the C7 as more reviews come out. But in the review videos...that front end... Ugh.. it's not sleek sexy or cool.. it just looks like the 1998+ 4th gen camaro got mated to a big mouth bass... with a retainer in its mouth. (you can use your own twisted imagination to fill in the details on that).

Does anyone LOVE the new front end? Just curious.

Just replace the front grill with real shark teeth and you will have that aggressive look that you want, problem solved. :leaving:

Geof180 07-29-2013 09:17 AM

In my opinion, the front end - to include the intake and headlights - looks pretty freaking sinister... that being said, I love it!

Duro 07-29-2013 09:18 AM

IMO the front end is the BEST looking part of the whole car inside and out.

Carnut12 07-29-2013 10:30 AM

Although wider it is a very similar opening to the Miata.

I like the look overall, but do not love it. Looking forward to seeing it in person. The odd thing is the Back is growing on me and the Front I am starting to not like. The first time I saw pictures I had the opposite opinion.

This.

Knowing that that "big mouth" is there out of function makes the form look even better.

John B 07-29-2013 10:38 AM

I spent all day Saturday at a show with the C7. Had dinner sitting next to it. I already had corvette fever before I got there. I left disappointed. I couldn't get turned on by it from any angle. No sex appeal at all.

And just wide enough to accommodate front plates. a good solution IMO.

I swear there's some kind of "mouth" comparison to every other performance car on the market.

I think it looks good.

PAmotorman 07-29-2013 11:05 AM

the design is there to help the race team. the race engine needs lots of air to cool. the rad outlet in the hood is to help front down force. corvettes won too much so the racing assoc. said no more features on the race car that is not on the production car.

yellowray 07-29-2013 11:07 AM

I remember when the 98 Camero came out. People said it looked like a catfish. The I can't say the same for the C7, but does look alive.

Torky 07-29-2013 11:21 AM

The front end is tolerable, the obvious big problem is the back end.....

The front and back are awful. That protrusion down the side is very odd. It extends into the front bumper. The general proportions are fantastic, but the detailing is bad. Here are a few clean up attempts.

As with the c6 base vs c6 z06 front end, I think this base car lacks a little bit of aggression. I think the chrome trim piece was put in place to please the old waxers, who were put off by the updated styling. I love the front end from the top of the grill up, but the grill opening, chrome and lack of lower lip leaves me wanting.

All in all, I think the car is a monster that looks as good as damn near anything out there. I cant wait to see the first round of modded c7's at SEMA this yr!

amlarson2001 07-29-2013 12:09 PM

I finally got to see the car in person this weekend and the front end looked great to me. I thought it looked a lot better in person than in pics. The entire car looked better in person. I cant wait to see one driving on the road. I think when you see it you wont be thinking camaro front in any way. My 2c

The front is fantastic in person!

Yup I agree it looks awful. Oh? I thought you were talking about the pictures you posted. I am thankful that these do not not represent the sort of things we see coming from GM.. Sorry..

Front end looks fantastic in real life. My favorite part of the car. One of the best front end of any Corvette.

michaelinmech 07-29-2013 03:29 PM

Just for accuracy, it's called a Large Mouth Bass . . . . :flag:

Sin City 07-29-2013 03:56 PM

I like the throw back to the earlier 50/60's cars without being completely retro.

Judging by this photo, it appears that if you get the grill with the license plate holder you won't have the chrome plating on the retainer - or is that just due to the lighing in this photo? Looks much better without the chrome.

rad928music 07-29-2013 05:32 PM

I just saw the C7 Saturday for the first time.
They brought it to the A local Corvette Club show here in Minnesota.
The front looks Good but I would loose the chrome bar if I had one or paint it black.
The car looks smaller in person IMO.
The interior they had was a light base ball mit color with lots of stiching.
Looked very upscale.
The paint was awsome ( I think it was the blue) but it was in a ball room not outside so the color shifted.
I like all corvettes and most sports cars.
Gm did a great job, they took it to the next level.
I walked thru the car show and looked at the rest of the Corvettes on display and I think it fits in great.
It still looks like a Corvette to me
I got into my C4 that I parked outside of the car show and had a fun drive home.

I was on the fence about this car until I saw it in person. It doesn't photograph well. It looks pretty darn cool in the flesh...

I like it a lot, but really need to see it in person.

dollarbill 07-29-2013 06:28 PM

Actually it is a Black Bass and I think the front end looks great; the rear is another matter. I am shore it will grow on me. We still need a model with less that 6LBS/HP to get into Z range though.

TTRotary 07-29-2013 06:34 PM

The front looks awesome. In fact, the whole car looks awesome - until you get to the rear bumper.

There is something wrong even in person. It's got those two protrusions sticking out in front which are too high off the ground. A 50s Cadillac bumper with real boobs would have been better.
The door sill has grown from the C6. It looked silly on the C6 and even worse on the C7.
The back is really awful. It looks like a Disney world mono rail train that has been derailed and badly damaged.
What's with all those busy lines all over the car?
The black plastic grilles look really cheap all over the place.
The whole car looks a little too long also. It C6 already had a long wheel base now it is more than 2" longer.
Like the C6, the cockpit is too large for a sports car. The most perfect cockpits are McLaren F1, Honda NSX and a Lotus Elise. Loved C2, C3 and C4 inside especially from 90 on. A modern Version of a C2 dual cockpit interior needs to come back. C7 is a splendid effort by the engineers and the designers. Perhaps they were looking toward China instead of Europe. I'm all for making money if it sells better. Corvette should never deviate too far from the 59 Stingray or the Mako Shark II. There is nothing more beautiful than a shark in this world, except maybe a P51 or Ursula Andress.

hokiebus 07-29-2013 07:06 PM

You guys that don't like this or that - nobody is twisting ur arm. Go some where else and gripe. You sound like Big Mouth Billy Bass full of hot air.

I have, and still does not look as it should. The tail lamps themselves look WAY better in person...cool and 3D. It's the black sorround bezel, indentation around that, and the lower half that is just...wrong. This is all cosmetic, so it can be pretty easily corrected.

JudgeNjury 07-29-2013 08:06 PM

Videos are often shot to low which gives a weird viewpoint. The front end is stunning ..IMO

2K14C7 07-29-2013 08:12 PM

Just like the tail light and mascara vent controversy GM can't and never will design a front end to please everyone. I think they did an outstanding job on the car as a whole and plan on a C7 in the 2nd or 3rd year model run.

I love those low shots of the front...shows off the power bulge and the fender sweep. Just looks awesome from that angle. Lots of room under there for a blower...

Yes, definitely more 'sexy' than 'big mouth bass' in my opinion.
I may not 'love' the tail end/tail lights (I don't hate them either though) but I do LOVE the appearance of the rest (front end and profile) of the car. :yesnod:

Nitrous Oxide 07-30-2013 02:15 AM

Sexy or big mouth bass?

http://static2.businessinsider.com/i...-vantage-s.jpg

:D

Rkreigh 07-30-2013 07:16 AM

nope, that's a cat fish. but yes, it's still a sexy one

like to see some other grill designs minus the retainer (god I hated that thing).

similarities to the 599 ferrari are a good thing.

the "ferrarmo" design is growing on me, but I'm not "in love" with it yet, but then again I'm a very harsh styling critic and wasn't in love with the C4 ZR-1 or C5 styling either, but overall they are still pretty darn cool cars and the performance is fantastic.

I modded my c5 with a "tiger shark" front and a specter werkes back end because I really liked the styling improvements.

for those of you unhappy with the c7 styling, wait a tick, the aftermarket will provide plenty of options to customize and personalize the car.

overall the engineering is pretty darn solid and the base care is a screaming bargain.

JudgeNjury 07-30-2013 07:47 AM

The design has a lot of forward motion to it....from the low sweeping front end....to the fast swept side grilles to the body lines through the fenders to the sharp edge aero rear...

It's an impressive shift in design language and both exciting and shocking for on lookers...

I think its well done and in person pulled off even better than the photographs....

I can't say how this design will age...

Often times cutting edge daring designs don't age as well as more classic less adventuresome designs....

But I say...no guts no glory...

It'll be hot for the entire c7 run and then some..

StingRaycer 07-30-2013 04:49 PM

Nope sorry the redraw does not do anything- it looks dated, the straight vertical vents in the lower rear fascia don't match with the cross section body side contours. Sorry
If the original design doesn't turn one on -then maybe a different brand is the best option.

Mopar Jimmy 07-30-2013 05:07 PM

Love the front end and all other views of the car as long as you can't see the rear end. As soon as you can see the rear end the entire car looks like crap, that's how bad the rear end is. :ack:

I have owned 7 vettes, C4s, C5s and C6s, the last 20 years but GM lost me over to the dark side (just traded in my C6 Z for Viper) b/c of the design of the C7 with this rear end, and its not the tailights its the entire rear end. I can't believe GM would slap on such an ugly rear end on what would have been such an awesome car.

I like this rendition. Got rid of the funky, crammed, overcrowded, speed racer looking trumpets. That was one of the designs that I don't like along with the large black diffuser but a dark colored car would take care of the diffuser "issue." IMO, this rear end treatment is a "winner."

JohnnyMac1 07-30-2013 05:38 PM

Large mouth bass with two coffee cup holders included

~Stingray 07-30-2013 07:06 PM

I think it looks great. You want to see a bass, check out the 1999 Mitsubishi 3000GT. But just for the record, I like that car too.

Owner's Remorse? I really do not understand why someone would try so incessantly to rain on the parade of others. You have an awesome ride, could be out enjoying it.

StingRaycer 07-31-2013 11:11 AM

:iagree:

StingRaycer 07-31-2013 11:30 AM

I have owned C5s and I liked the C6 design even better than the C5 but IMO the rear ends of both cars are very bland and heavy looking. The C7 has a chiseled modern look with styling cues that lighten the rear by dividing up the masses. The large quad exhausts look very "V8 American" while the twin exhaust idea looks more like a ricer. The C7 shape moves the Corvette into a much more modern design language. Again this is IMHO and its only that---an opinion.
It seems like on this forum, the naysayers are the ones who speak most about their opinions of the styling while the silent majority who love the car just like it is -stay quiet. Its a free country and we can all say what we want but I think the GM stylists are far more schooled than most of us in what modern styling should be. That is excluding a few of their stinkers like the Aztek etc-(thought I should add that since that will be what immediately comes back at me.) Anyway if the styling is not what you want-don't buy it , go get a few billion dollars in loans, open up your own company and express your ideas by styling your own cars to produce and lets see what will sell better. I am betting on the C7.

I'll keep my C5Z... Mine has more of a Shark look... and would surely devour a "said" Bass, Catfish... ;)
