I just wanted to udate this thread for others that use the search function to do research.
I ended up going with the felpro 1094 gaskets but I did spray them with permatex spray gasket material. I also went with the lunati voodoo262 cam, new lifters and matching valve springs. I have installed, the engine and broke in the cam with no issues, I have about an hour runtime on it now at different rpms while I adjusted things like the starter and timing and the idle (still fighting an unresponsive idle adjustment screw on the edelbrock carb. (got a holley regulator on order as my fuel pessure is a bit high for this carb) but otherwise its running good with no smoke or other surprises. I used dyno200 for reaserch and with all of my engine components plugged into it the voodoo 262 gave me the best performance in the correct range with 406hp and 417lbs of tq estimated... if I'm anywhere near that I'll be a happy camper. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...7ae7c15497.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...0be0d7a611.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...71f1264210.jpg I dont think I did too bad for a $1,500 build plus $900 exhaust (the last pic was before timing) Thanks again to all that helped with advice. |

just a note , retarding or advancing the cam 2 degrees only moves the power band a small amount, like a hundred r.p.m or in that range so don't be scared of that.
i have flat tops with 64 cc heads the L-82 cam advanced 2 degrees with 1.6 rockers and it doesn't ping with 44 degrees total on a 95 degree day. however, i have aluminum heads and a big aluminum radiator. so i don't know how that translates to the op's question.:D |

Sounds optimistic for a 262 cam in a 350.
Maybe I did something wrong? I included the dyno 200o pdf specs I realise the numbers are optimistic to say the least... I was just looking for as much power as I could get in the right rpm range for my gearing on the budget I had. |

I do have almost the same combo as this engine only I have more compression from my flattops vs the dished pistons and the dart heads instead of the vortecs. These guys managed 406hp and 420lbs of tq from it with a 268 cam. http://www.superchevy.com/how-to/46370-gm-350-crate-engine-build-v/ They state at the end that the 262 can would deliver more torque at the cost of a few HP...they stated comp cams dyno testing proved this... Car craft did an almost identical build and managed about the same power. |
Hope it does make that. I didn't realize the 262 had that much duration @.050.
You going to dyno it before it goes in the car? |

You going to dyno it before it goes in the car? It is misleading since the specs of the voodoo 262 cam make it seem larger than most 268 cams i looked at.... plus I was mistaken on my roller rockers... they are 1.6 so that may help a bit. |

Its already in the car and running but I do plan on running it on a dyno at some point.
