corvette project

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/memb...ge-148924t.jpg I bought this 1974 corvette in February and i know it needs work and i was wondering how do i fix the rust and stuff in the pic the pictures is of the passenger side door right when it opens up

Sorry, but I can't tell what you've got in your pic. Door shells are metal; only the outer door skin is fiberglass. If your problem is actually the metal shell, regular rust clean up might work.

yes it was rusted and somebody painted over it and i am just trying to clean the rust up but it is all rusted out

Can you get some more photos and then we can work on helping you post them better? Hopefully we are talking about surface rust, and not deep rust in critical areas. If you look around here you will find a lot of info about birdcage and windshield support rust. If you don't find it, ask and somebody will tell you where to look.
Oh, congrats and welcome, btw.

Hi Navy,
I believe your picture is rotated 90 degrees, thus it's difficult to assess whats going on in that area because of that, and also because of it's small size.
Are you asking about the door or the hinge pillar?
There is steel (part of the birdcage), fiberglass, and some filler material in that area originally.
More info?
Regards,
Alan

Here's what it looks like with the paint and and then with the paint removed. This may help you understand what you're seeing.

That rust looks kinda serious. How does it look under your kickpanels at the body mounts?
