Just curious.

If you had to buy a sports type of car. This car could not be a corvette. It had to be used. It also had to be under $30k. What would you buy?

02z06dave 07-16-2013 12:58 PM

First choice would be a viper second maybe a Porsche or something

Suthunman 07-16-2013 01:02 PM

You not liking the Corvette?

jd_black_00 07-16-2013 01:12 PM

NSX for me

strand rider 07-16-2013 01:15 PM

Porsche, of course. I was talking to a Viper owner the other day, with a newer model , and he said it was basically a NASCAR car with a street body. Simple is good.
Sucking gas is bad.

Perhaps a TRiumph TR250.

TB1300 07-16-2013 01:15 PM

Boxster S

chris308 07-16-2013 01:20 PM

None of thosee are for under 30k... Except maybe the boxster s or some old 911's.

black match box 07-16-2013 01:20 PM

1967 olds 442 4 speed, red with black int.

andrec10 07-16-2013 01:26 PM

Boxster...Or Older 911

ZachHasAVette 07-16-2013 01:28 PM

black match box has the right idea, i'd probly got with a 69 or 72/3 camaro, love those cars

Maxx_Z06 07-16-2013 01:30 PM

Trans Am WS6

DA1984VETTE 07-16-2013 01:31 PM

Probably a Porsche 911..

ZigZag 07-16-2013 02:39 PM

2005 GTO LS2, can't go wrong and you can get one under $20,000.

CQRT 07-16-2013 03:00 PM

Mustang or Camaro . . .

new or used wth some muscle . . .

PNW Vett 07-16-2013 03:00 PM

I would go with a 70 Mach One Mustang or 69 Camaro SS (if I could find either under 30K)

c5vetteguy 07-16-2013 03:10 PM

I read that as "sports car" meaning a two seater, preferably a convertible, in which case an XKE or TR8. Not much of a Porsche fan, although I know they're excellent cars. :salute:

mjones871 07-16-2013 03:48 PM

late 60's Firebird or early 70's TA...

3boystoys 07-16-2013 03:51 PM

I bought a Challenger R/T to keep the Vette and the Motorcycle company in the garage.

:iagree:

Just a little more room than a Camaro or Mustang.

GySgt1811 07-16-2013 04:27 PM

'50 - '53 brg xk120.

Ekul61 07-16-2013 04:29 PM

I like the vet Greg . It's looking real good. I have a issue with the steering being to heavy. I'm going to tackle soon. I'm Really liking my mods. Maybe a zo6 in the future.http://i1198.photobucket.com/albums/...1/image-21.jpghttp://i1198.photobucket.com/albums/...1/image-30.jpg

envyz06 07-16-2013 04:30 PM

Porsche 911 for me

djmlax89 07-16-2013 04:37 PM

Mk4 Supra

damilleniumboy 07-16-2013 04:38 PM

T3 or Viper

Ekul61 07-16-2013 05:42 PM

Not so sure u can buy those for 30k

Z06ufgrad2002 07-16-2013 05:48 PM

first choice would be 1970 SS/RS camaro w/ 396ci
second RX7 S5 turbo
third a Viper if it would fit in the $ limitation

Make it a 2006 GTO

or a M3

BeanCntr 07-16-2013 06:24 PM

Either a '67 or '70 Chevelle SS vert or if a true sports car a BRG TR6

Vetteman Jack 07-16-2013 08:32 PM

I'd probably go with one of several choices:

Mustang
Camaro
Buick GS (70-72)
Chevelle SS
Nova

El original 07-16-2013 09:04 PM

Easy a 05 or 06 Chevy SSr with the LS2 power plant. (Oh, I got one already, lol)
http://i1184.photobucket.com/albums/...psdd80574e.jpg

jrose7004 07-16-2013 09:30 PM

An older 911.

Easy to find early vipers under 30k. Also tons of Porsches under 30k

f6john 07-16-2013 09:40 PM

A Plymouth Prowler and save my pennies for a LS swap!

Mr.Bill 07-16-2013 09:41 PM

Easy, BBC early 70 camaro....

Brackneyc 07-16-2013 09:55 PM

308gts

703 07-16-2013 09:58 PM

I have a list of cars. My top 2 would be either a nsx or viper. Love the looks of both and around here you hardly see them, especially a nsx.

You just about hit the nail on the head with me. (except for the Mustang. Prolly great cars, but just can't do the Ford thing) I think the OP might have been asking more about 2 seaters, but Muscle cars are pretty sporty. And I love my Corvettes.

o2bnkc 07-17-2013 03:52 AM

An Opel GT just because you don't hardly see them around, they look like mini vettes, and they are way under $30k.

Tusc 07-17-2013 04:52 AM

Re: Viper.... The only thing you'll get for under $30k is a Gen I. Now, if you have a jones for those... cool. I am a Viper NUT, but Gen 2 (96-02) is, for me, the only option. When the market crashed in 08, I did see a number of CLEAN cars go for 30 to 40. A handful were lower, but beat. So a Viper for 30k... meh. Also... if the gaskets are bad from not being driven like so many are, big expense.

As to what I'd spend up to $30k on?

Austin Healey 3000 Mk3 - buy the bones, add LS6/T56, new rims/suspension and brakes, then have it painted. Probably wrap it for about $20k.
http://media.motortopia.com/files/15...arshow_054.jpg

1950 Chevy Pickup - swap to custom frame/suspension, but add LS6/auto
---->

90s Acura NSX.... but only if I could also afford to add a supercharger. Pricing on the base cars varies a lot.

Porsche Cayman - kinda dooshy, but fun

Detomaso Pantera (most are priced higher, but sometimes they come along)

imgn tht 07-17-2013 09:41 AM

Unmolested late 90's Supra! I'd also look into the new Camaro.

03whitecoupe 07-17-2013 09:56 AM

Porsche 911, preferably early 90's coupe.

sbulla 07-17-2013 12:35 PM

Always liked the old British cars. Might go with a Triumph TR3 or Austin Healey 3000. Maybe a Lotus Super Seven. Kinda like to have my old Bugeye back also!

Not power houses but, fun to drive.

Sonny

Bill McCassey 07-17-2013 01:12 PM

I might get a pontiac G8 and mod the hell out of it.

Cybermind 07-17-2013 01:16 PM

An old Ferrari 328 or Lotus Esprit!

A Porsche Boxster or Cayman I would not consider due to their "hidden engine" design. For me it would have to be a car where the hood can be opened to display an equally impressive looking engine. Porsches hide their engines away like they're the car's genitals or something. But they are nice vehicles with a lot of racing history, which I like.

RetiredSFC 97 07-17-2013 01:34 PM

Corvette is the only Sportscar I would be interested in. Maybe one of those BMW boxsters wouldn't be bad. They sure do look nice.

bigcypress 07-17-2013 04:07 PM

wel , remember i'm OLD , i'd like a 34 ford coupe with an acura v6 and acura driveline . had a 32 with an olds v8 in it and sold it around 1961 . . . .for $500 .

jdot 07-18-2013 12:28 AM

Mustang GT

Love your Austin Healey idea !

Ekul61 07-18-2013 10:04 AM

Mustang is my choice over a camaro

Black 02 07-18-2013 10:57 AM

BMW M3 or Porsche 911

95rtturbo 07-18-2013 01:59 PM

Z4 M Coupe or Vert
03-04 Mustang Cobra
low mileage, near stock EVO IX

Lee DeRaud 07-18-2013 02:49 PM

2000 Boxster S was what I traded for the C5...except for that, it's not a bad choice, and very nice ones are available for a lot less that $30K. Have yet to see a Cayman for less than $32 or so.

With a full $30K and a lot more free garage space than I currently have, I'd do a Factory Five Cobra replica. But then I'd need at least one more garage bay, plus a truck to haul pieces around to machine shops etc, plus a place to park the bones of the donor car, plus...

JetMechZ16 07-18-2013 03:00 PM

Well if it has to be a two seater then a Saturn Sky or Pontiac Solstace with LS1 or LS6 swap. Like Hot Rod magazine did a few years back.

OneCylinder 07-18-2013 08:35 PM

Hey Tusc, is that your '64 Galaxy? Full size old Fords don't get a lot of play but they are really good looking cars.

krvhugr 07-18-2013 09:52 PM

Infiniti G35 6MT Coupe, still wish I had mine!

Z06ster 07-18-2013 10:32 PM

Given the OP's "under $30K" parameter, I would go for a 90's NSX for sure.

2013 Mustang Gt 6 spd. Iv'e driven a few this year when I have been on the road. They are hard to beat for what they cost. Good acceleration and they handle very well. Lot's of great mods available too.

I know it is a Blue Oval but it performs.
