As a fellow Pittsburgher I'd be interested in knowing which dealership did the work.

Normally I first discuss car problems I can't handle with my trusted local independent mechanic. If he feels comfortable tackling it he gets the job. I know it will be done right and at a fair price. I've had a couple of issues over the years where he declines, and then I go to the dealer (or, in the case of an old Ferrari, a specialist).

I agree. Too bad 99.99% of techs at a GM garage are not experts.

So true, and some can't even do something as simple as an oil change right.

My God, that is a ton of money for such a repair. I think that was a total rip off.

I have called Chevy customer service about a recent rip off on warranty work for my car...a TSB of all things..and it was no help whatsoever.

I'm curious as to how you see this being something that should be repaired at no charge to the owner?

If the dealer found any type of electrical problem with your car and they advised you that continuing to drive the car was a safety issue and could cause a fire, and they advised you of the cost to make the necessary fix...and you declined, and the car caught fire 2 blocks from the dealership, how would that be the fault of the dealership?

I'm just not seeing where you're coming from on this issue. If the problem is determined to be outside of the warranty, and it's not "currently" under any recall program, then it would seem to be the owners decision to fix the problem and at their cost or suffer the consequences if something bad happens.

Just my personal perspective.

I would call chevy and ask for assistance in paying the bill. Since it was a fire hazard they should fork up some money.

Get in touch with the Regional GM representative and challenge the charge.

That is outrageous!...there is NO way a short would draw down a battery that quickly without blowing a fuse...and why on earth would it take a 'GM Certified Technician' that long to find the trouble...:crazy2:

Sumthin' smells fishy!

Power seats and power windows circuits are protected by a circuit breaker. If the switch is stuck closed or shorted, the circuit breaker will cycle.

That's what I was thinking. I thought 5 hours of diagnostics to find out a relatively "easy" problem seemed a bit excessive, and 5.5 hours to remove/reinstall seat and (marked up) parts even more so.

One of the CSR's from the dealer called me today to thank me for my business and asked me if I was satisfied with my experience. Let's just say they will get a scathing letter included with their survey!!

Jeesuus, first mistake was just giving them cart blanche to do whatever it took to fix it. Always get a full estimate before any work is done. Had they told me it would cost $1800 to fix a seat switch I would have told them to pound it and I would have put that money toward a set of race seats.

calemasters 07-12-2013 06:19 PM

The time to diagnose and R&R the driver's power seat switch is ~1.1 hours.

? did it fix the car ?or did the battery go dead again?:willy:

carl3989 07-13-2013 08:59 AM

I suggest you ask to speak to the owner of the dealership first. Chances are he or she can adjust that price . However, if you receive no satisfaction there, contact GM customer relations. Finally there is a web site where you can report your satisfaction, or lack there of, to GM. Something the dealers do not want too many customer filing poor reviews doing.

That's a good point Carl. I think maybe I'll try to talk to the owner or manager prior to filling out that survey.

Did you bitch out the dealer yet?

BTW: blame the wife for giving the go ahead without calling you first.
